2007 5 GT "thing 5"
The time has come for a paint job on the 5. I just noticed a small rock chip on the rear fender that started to surface rust. Time to stop that. Not bad just the same. she's almost 10 years old.

Should I use the factory black or go with something like black cherry from the MS6, or Obsidian black from MB. hmmmmm deceisions.

Yeah, dip is pretty dump and short sighted. Maybe he meant wrap? Still not a long term solution either.

I'm guessing you have access to someone to do this? It is unusual to paint the whole car simply bc your have some fender surface rust. If you have a hook up, nice! I'm not familiar with the colors you mention but I typically like any color with a "pearl" finish. The only exception is black, which might look better with a " metallic" finish (I associate black with bling). When shopping for a new car and you see the color swatches, notice these two finishes are the premeium colors. IMO, it is not so much about the color but rather the details that will make the color look hawt! :D

From a color wheel stand point, I like white, white, and white :). Followed by red and black. Standard boring colors But that's OK with me. ;)

I'd love to paint my other car, but unless one works at a body shop or doing single stage Maaco job, there is no way I can justify the expense.
2007 car value is about $7k, I was quoted $5k to repaint the whole car at a good quality shop.
Do you have a trick up your sleeve?

Yes repaints are terrible expensive if you go to a good shop, and want a great result.

I really like that Black Cherry MS6 color...and depending on your interior color, I also like that new Mazda Titanium Flash brown/bronze color... But it sounds like you want something really deep/dark colored.

Most good shops will be able to patch and blend without having to repaint the whole panel and have it look damn close to factory again, if not dead on.

Yes I don't NEED the entire care painted. But im anal over my car. And after almost 10 years of parking lots etc, theres lots of dings etc I want fixed. The obsidian black is nice. its pearlesant with blue and green in it. Very different and cool. I want to keep the black color as I don't want to paint inside the doors, hood etc. That could stay black, and just pop the extra color on the exterior.

You knew the answer all along.

I was not mentioning changing the color, only what black. I am still undecidied on that. I love the black cherry, obsidian black, black opal, dunno.

I see the different shades of black as color options but that's just me. Nonetheless, my point being Obsidian Black is the color you referenced and went to explain it was "different and cool" when you could you referenced other colors and their reasons. I'm sure all of these shades are equally nice. Any freshly painted car is nice so you can't go wrong. I hope you have the budget or hook-up to see it through so we can see pics. I have no idea what any of these shades look like.

budget is not an issue. I may keep with the mazda colors and go with the black cherry pearl....

NAH, no thanks. Not into color changing cars. Now custom bikes I build, yes. I have a few doozies in the works for this year. And Sleds too. Got a Arctic cat m1000 build im going to be starting soon, Adding all bikeman performance power adders, billet everything, Lots of powdercoating, custom paint and van amburg tunnel. I do this as my job, so its up for sale after im done. Same with motorcycles and ATV/UTVs as well. Fully customs from Harley baggers, to classic caf racers, to MX off road bikes.
