i want to paint my brake calapers and im just surius wat paint/ technice i should use (i got laser blue P5)

I went to my local CHECKER AUTO and got a can of DUPONT metalcast high temp anodized blue and a can of the metalcast basecoat.

A newspaper and a roll of masking tape to protect from overspray.
Taping off everything was time consuming.

But the final outcome was awesome if I do say so myself.

Painting with a brush would be less time, but I couldn't find a high temp paint that almost exactly matches my laser blue.

It cost me around $10 for both cans of paint.

Since then I have painted my intake brackets, radiator cap, overflow tank bracket and oil cap with this spray paint.

Yesterday I put in a red top Optima battery and made a new battery bracket from raw steel. You guessed it, the new battery bracket is painted blue anodized as well.

I haven't got pictures of the battery posted yet but some of the other stuff is on my web page.

click on the www button below and see how they turned out.

Any way have fun

How long ago did you paint, rednecks_r_us? I painted my interior w/the metalcast annodized red and I wanted to do it on my calipers too. Has it faded at all? Any chips or anything? I like the "annodized" look of it as opposed to the opaque/flat of some other paints. :D

clownphish,

I painted the calipers in early April of 2003.
So far they haven't faded or chipped.

I stupidly took my car to the dealership for a discount coupon for a cheap oil change & tire rotation. They dropped my lugnuts on the ground and chipped a couple of them.

Now I'll have to repaint a couple lugnuts.
The radiator cap and intake brackets I painted in May just before the Northern AZ, Protege 5 Mountain Drive. (See page 2 of my web page)

No fading there either.

I just updated my web page with pictures of my radiator cap and the battery tie down (That I painted yesterday, 08/24/03).

Any way I love the paint and I'm not a painter.
So anybody can make it look good.

Shake rattle and spray.

Later,

Bill

Sorry to be a pain in the ass mod, but we are trying to clean up all the forums to make it easier to search for items, and less cluttered. In the future, please post in the appropriate forum...example - Intakes, dispite being for the Protege5, belong in the performance section. Buying a carbon fiber hood for your Protege5 belongs in the Appearance section. If you raced someone in your Protege5 it still belongs in the Racing/Motorsports section. If you have any questions, comments, or complaints, feel free to PM me at any time.

Thanks again for your patience as we clear up the forums to make it better for you!

Moving this on over to the appearance section.

Hey All,
New to this site, boy is it great. I have painted all my brake calipers with plasticoat engine spray paint. First I scuff them with 180 grit paper, then lay on mist coats of paint. Between coats I use my heat gun to bake on the paint. Lay on the paint till you have them covered well. I have had no problems with chipping or fading. Ever. I am talking 3 years on my last car. That includes a little roadracing on weekends. It will dry glossy & will not dull. Even when you use cleaner(super clean, purple cleaner) on them!
Good Luck!!!!!!

I hate taking my car in for s*** like that. They even like spilling oil on your clean engine because fucktard figures it's not his car so why should he car if oil is spilled on your engine.

I took mine in last year for the "free first oil change"....
I wax my car obsessively and am very picky about how I wash it: no soap and dry it right away. Anyway...I told the service monkey about 5 times NOT to wash it for me...
Well, the ass just hosed it down, so by the time I get home, I had nice big water spots all over it...
THANKS LANGLEY WOLFE MAZDA!(pissed)

i just got done painting some of my s***
