The headlights on our cars come blacked out from the factory in Japan, Europe and even Canada. Only the USA gets the chrome lights. When I drove the 90 miles home in the dark Sunday nightafter painting, I had plenty of time see if my lights changed.
I didn't notice any difference inwhile driving in the city with all the city lights and freeway traffic.
But when I got back to northern Az with out all those city lights I could see that my lights were more focused on the road ahead instead of shining all over the place.
The chrome on the US version headlights reflects the light in every direction.
I used to get flashed all the time by people thinking I had my brights on because of all that reflection. Now my headlights shine where they are suposed to, on the road and not in peoples faces. This actually makes them not only look better but also safer.
They black out the lights in 3 other countries for a reason.

yeah I would have to agree, the black out is there for a reason. even if you don't follow that logic and believe that it will be a detriment to the intensity of the light: the P5 headlights are some of the brightest stock headlights (non-HID) on the market IMO. a slight degridation of the light shouldn't cause you to have lower intensity of light than most any other car on the road (non-HID).
jeremy - I was thinking about the necessity of blacking the fogs myself but I'm not sure its gonna look right cause the light (through NiteShades) will be a orange-red. Personally, I was thinking that it might be possible to do a sort of 'flying m' logo with a template. I need to visualize it more but any feedback on that idea would be appreciated.

Anybody good on photo shop. Color match the mazda logo on the fogs. Or black to match the headlights.
