Painted my calipers - G2 Caliper Paint System (pics & mini-review)

Purchased the G2 Brake Caliper Paint System off eBay for $38. I've painted two other sets of calipers with it, and it's by far the best paint I've used. Rattle cans look fine, but have flaked and chipped over time on me. G2 offers a guarantee against chipping and/or flaking. If it does, show them your proof of purchase and they'll send you a new kit for free. Pretty good IMO :)

It took me 3 hours from start to finish (jacking up car, taking off wheels, spraying brake cleaner, letting the paint mix properly, and applying two coats on each caliper). It's best to apply one coat, and then move on to the next caliper. By the time you apply one coat on each caliper, then you can go back around and do the second coat. I then let it dry for an additional 2 hours afterwards. With the weather being hot and muggy, the paint hardens/cures faster. They recommend applying the paint in a certain temperature range as to avoid the accelerated curing process. I didn't want to wait for cooler weather so I had to work briskly. In cooler weather, you may be able to apply a third coat. The brush and paint started to harden so it wasn't worth messing with it any more. I used the leftover paint on my rims as they had some chips and rash marks. Turned out really good. Since it's an epoxy paint, I feel it'll hold up on the rims quite well.

Shout if you've got any questions. Now on to the pics:

Didn't get a chance to do the endlinks today. The painting took longer than I planned. Rather do one job properly instead of rushing two jobs.

Upgraded OEM FTW!!!

OEM Plus, I like it. The silver looks great with the 03 wheels. Got any pics of the whole car as well?

The car is bone stock. Nothing fancy. Been progressively reducing the amount that I do to cars ever since selling '02 WRX that was heavily modded. The MS3 I just sold was lightly modded.

I'm gonna keep the P5 pretty much stock. Only minor cosmetic mods here and there probably to clean up the look a little. Gonna get Matt V's retro HID lights in a few weeks. After that, I won't be spending any more money on the car for a while aside from maintenance items. I might powdercoat the stock wheels at some point to gunmetal. And when the stock suspension goes, I might lower her a little.

Yeah, mine is quite stock...focusing on cosmetics, and the miata is my real toy.

Lowering, pulling the molding, and MZ3 rear wiper were my favorite things for looks:

Oh yeah, the rear wiper mod will probably be in the plans, too. How hard is that to do?

Looks great! Really stands out now.

Man I still have my G2 Kit in black though. I have not used it yet but I have heard great reviews.

did you paint while on the car or off?

I did it with the calipers on. Too much trouble taking them off. You can see some places where the brush strokes got on the brake pads. Not a huge deal to me. You can pick up a finer brush for the tighter areas. Also, the instructions say that you can take off the calipers if you wish to paint the insides.

Make sure you use it before too long. There's an expiration date on these due to the hardening agent losing its effectiveness. It has a pretty decent amount of shelf life though.

x2....I had a kit that I had to throw out as I didn't know it had a shelf life....live and learn. lol

Nice write-up and while I can't see pics while at work, I can vouch for G2 as I just painted the wife's calipers with a black kit two weekends ago.

looks good, at first I was thinking silver would look dumb but it doesn't look that bad. My dad's 07 wrx sti's calipers are red, and thats how I picture all calipers in my head lol.

I've had better luck with non-high temp paint on my brake calipers. No matter what brake caliper paint I've used, it chips.

I've been using Rustoleum paint in a can and it's been awesome. After almost a year it hasn't faded at all.
