what i would like to know is why do solid colours like black and yellow have a surcharge (metallic or otherwise) and not red (i don't think white has it either). i would like to sit down with a rep who even has a clue (unlike most) and ask them some serious questions.

My guess is the 'paint surcharge' for all P5 colors other than white or red was just a 'marketing decision' my Mazda. Translation: A way to get a little more money from you using a 'hidden' charge most people find out about in negotiations at the dealership. They had to have some colors that did not have the charge of course... and guess what...red and white are not the biggest sellers....so they collect the color charge on most cars they sell....

hey jcs that was me you were talking to, when i came over to pick up my shifter.

bumble g you mentioned in canada there are no window stickers. i hope i misunderstood because there most definately are stickers. ....

I should have wrote that better.
The window stickers on Canadian cars are different. Most of the time they are not as easy to follow as the US ones. My last car had it's window sticker when I first saw it but some of the info was just a bunch of codes.

I'm gona go out to a Mazda dealership either today or tommorow and take a look at the window stickers. See if the info is there.

Regardless of clear or not, my car doesn't seem to have the problems listed above.(thank god)
I think it's time for another 5 coats of Zaino.

sorry...

Hey roswel sorry about that.... it totally slipped my mind that you where on this board... ooopss... maybe I shoudl mind my business next time... ;)

Vivid Paint

Has anyone noticed that they're Yellow has faded at all? I wax my car frequently.... it's mostly towards the rear of the car and the rear bumper, because thats where the dust builds up most, but I think that the paint should last longer than it appears to be lasting......Mazda will be hearing from me this afternoon.......

I have had no problems with my paint fading. I have only had it for 3 months. People told me that parking in the sun may cause fading so when Im at work I park it under ground. But at home it has to suffer outside.

But again, no fading here.

How long have you had your car?? Do you park it in the sun all the time??

Yes I park in the Sun Daily @ work. But Come On I've only had my car for 9 Months. my paint better not get any worse or I am going postal on Mazda for sure thats rediculous!!!Should last at least 5 years. sheesh

paint

hey jcs....

Hey roswel sorry about that.... it totally slipped my mind that you where on this board... ooopss... maybe I shoudl mind my business next time...

not too sure why you would say that. i hope i didn't say something that offended you about talking about my paint woes. the more information we share the better off we all are. i just thought you forgot who you had been talking to.

my yellow has not started fading at all yet. now that my fascia is fixed my paint problems have been greatly reduced. somebody mentioned that if you didn't have clear your paint would rub off. well this is exactly what happended to my paint. however this will only happen if you use abrasives. any kind of prewax cleaner will do this. i now have 3 layers of wax and no paint will come off. make sure that if you have yellow you use a PURE carnuba wax and NOT a cleaner/wax.

the biggest problem i have now is mad swirl marks. i tried glaze and used it properly but i can't get them off. any suggestions?

paint charge?

i wrote mazda back after my last response from them to inquire further as to the nature of the "metallic" paint charge applied to all canadian models except for red and white.

here is the response:

"There is at least one vehicle chosen from each model line-up that doesn't have a paint charge. The Mazda Proteg5 actually has two colours (red and white) that do not have the $105.00 paint charge. All other paint has colours have a charge of $105.00. This charge stems from the original "metallic" paint charge and although the paint does not have the metallic properties that the paint used to have, the new paints still have a charge applied today."

Regards
Mazda Canada Inc.

to me this basically says.... mazda is charging me for a paint i don't have, they know i don't have it, they know i know i don't have it, but they are gonna charge me anyways.

it's like that mountain dew commercial...

"what just happened davey?"
"we got hosed, we got hosed"

While they should remove the word 'metallic', they can then legally call it anything else they want such as 'premium' colour charge... it's just a marketing ploy to get more money from you when you go to close the deal... and keep the advertised price of the car as low as possible. They have to have 1 or 2 colours without the charge, as they can't have legally have a hidden 'mandatory' charge for anything that all cars have (like paint). So they do not have the charge for the less popular colours like red and white. Illegal, no. Deceiving, maybe, but not uncommon in this business.

No offence taken... just a bad day at work again.... LOL

As for the swirl marks. I have a swirl remover from Meguiars at home it's their #9 out of the Pro line they have. I used it.. it worked alright but a buffer would make it work that much better.... remember when you wash your car, remove the wax go in straigh lines... the only time you do cirlces is when you put the wax on.

My roomy is a proffesional detailer, I know alot of little tricks thanks to him... and he does awesome work.

www.torontodetailing.com is his website...

Hope that helps

Well, I waxed my yellow mp3 this weekend, and a little bit of yellow came off on my polishing rag. Also, my side mirrors look dull compared to the rest of the car. The rest of the car was shining NICE!

I came out this morning to find someone had put a cigarette out on the hood of my yellow P5! Luckily it all came off with a little water and a rag, but it was nice to see the paint job stand up tp that.

Paint chips too

I have a white mp5, and I have huge scratches in my paint job, and I don't drive my car any other places than my old cars, and I get these scratches all over my car. Being that my car is white, It looks worse..

What kind of scratches do you mean Jhanson?? Front end chips? Swirl marks from waxing or what? "Scratches" sounds like long key marks or something and I'm trying to figure out how you could be getting those.
