i'm getting a lot of s*** done to my car at the end of this month and it is going to require a large amount of painting... (new front bumper, rear wheel well rust fix). i'm almost considering having the whole thing repainted so it doesn't end up multi-colored and blotchy looking. (and i have the yellow mp3). i'm either going to just get the needed work done and whatever they need to do to blend it, or have the entire car repainted yellow, or hell, painted white.

i like white :) yellows cool but if your gonna repaint the whole car, might as well enjoy a different color

im thinkin if i ever repaint mine, it'd be a gunmetal, a darker bronze, or a cream color

Ok..Still not sure on what you want..but let me tell you a few Things you minght not now about painting.
First....Repairing a section and blending..is a lot of work....However...Nowhere near the work or cost of a repaint.

Second....Doing a Full All Over Repaint of a car the OEM color is a lot easier than a color chnage and A lot more economical..but is still very pricy to get done right.

Lastly..a Color Change to white , I think would require a lot more money and time than you may thing...Painting the Car white Vs. Painting the Car the OEM color would likely Cost you double the PEM color to do the right way.

Just keep these things in mind when you are asking yourself what you want to do.

What kind of budget are you working with?

thanks for the insight. however, the budget isn't a worry at all for me... right now i'm leaning towards having my local mazda dealership take care of it all for me, rather than just some local auto body butcher the job. either way, i'm going to be paying out the ass, because rust repair is expensive, and on the rear wheel wells, even more so. for just the rust fix & paint blending, i was quoted at 2000 (numerous times). that doesn't include getting a new bumper, painting & blending that, as well as installation. i guess i might just go with repainting it the OEM color, depending on the price differences between that and blending, because if it is severely different, i may as well not bother.

If your smart, you'll take the time to find the right body shop. Most dealers do not have the best painters or prep.

Im my personal Experience...Dealers to a Pretty good job for most people.
You would really be surprised.

I'm a tough critic. Had an uncle with a body shop and worked in one for a few years. So it would be surprising to me, to see a good dealer paint job.

I agree for the most part..but where I am ..there are quite a few that do well above standard work.

And this is first hand knowledge for here..But yeah..Typically a private shop will do better than a dealer shop.

i think you should get the whole car re-painted yellow, u have a MP3 and the color yellow is what makes it stick out that its a MP3. That just my 2 cents.

Def. post up some pics when you get it done

and where at in PA are you, im from pittsburgh

that's what i'm leaning more towards right now anyways. probably will be a lot cheaper too.

but i'm from the philadelphia area (suburbs)

White. comeon' you'll have an albino MP3.... I wanted to do that to mine. But my paint is still good on my car.

Stick to yellow, otherwise you'll have have to paint the sills, inside the engine pay, under the hood, under the trunk lid, etc. so that it doesn't look half-assed.

Not true i am from up in tremont. But forced to live down in VA due to military orders. Can not wait to get back up there.

Any how back to the subject at hand...
My vote goes for yellow. It is a MP3 make it stand out from the regular proteges.

Yeah. The yellow is a precious color for MP3. Its the fewer numbered MP3 color. Why throw away its special color and get white, when white is pretty standard for Protege, as well as many other cars? It'll match all the interior painted areas (engine bay) flawlessly. But can't say that with white on yellow.
