Paint Issues

I have had my yellow MP5 for a week now and washed it for the first time yesterday. I noticed that here and there I can see little black specs about the size of a pin head. Looking VERY closely I can see that its the primer! Does anyone else have this issue? You have to look real close to notice but its there. Would this be a warranty issue? Would they fix this at no charge? I almost feel nitpicky about this one because it is almost un-noticable unless you are really looking hard at it.

You could try asking, but I doubt it. It's been covered on the forum before, the OEM paintjobs suck. Very thin paint, and it likes to chip. I just wax it the best I can and try to take care of it, I'll probably have it repainted Spring 2005. More than likely, I'll stick with the same color also. A good paint job will run me roughly $4000, but it's worth it. I'm hoping to keep my car for a long time.

Yeah I have seen people mention it in other threads but no one posts resolutions (ex. Talking with dealer and having them fix it)

wait till you have owned your car for a year. i actually saw some paint blow off the front edge of my hood while at a high speed. still waiting to hear from the rep. good luck.:)

My dealer told me straight out not to buy yellow because the paint sucks and its impossible to match it.

I know that the 1990 white miatas had paint problems...( peeling off!) and the warranty covered this. Mazda repainted them if the owner asked them to. Maybe this will be an issue with the P5..If so I'm sure Mazda will do something about it.

I am not saying it WAS brake dust...just that it is a substance like brake dust on the hood. My sheep-wool washing glove didn't take it off and it wasn't until today that I actually tried using my finger. The way it initally behaved and visual indications lead me to believe it was the primer underneath. All is well now, except for it being a real pain to get off!
