Pablo's 2004 MSM Build

Got that FM catback for $250 shipped, he claims it has less than 1k miles on it... should be installing that this weekend! Also talked to Jeremy @ FM, the tune looks good other than being a bit rich under boost. Autotune should fix most of it, but the tune in April will actually show me the gains. I'll do another run @ Smokey's eventually so I can have a better comparison.

updated list:

- tune (April 5)
- passenger seat and harness - backordered
- catback - installed
- 3.63 rear end
- clutch and flywheel (whenever the clutch wears out)

Received the catback on Friday and installed it, I like the sound. She drives great, very smooth and little lag. Like FM says on their site, this is how the car should have come from the factory. I now have the big enchilada package, don't feel the need for more power now but we'll see how long it takes me to get used to it.

OH, and I got a go pro over the weekend. Videos should look much better.

Isn't the stock rear ratio 4.10:1? Why the taller setup?

4.11, 1st gear is almost pointless. Cruising in the city @ 40 MPH I'm in 5th, autox is a pain.

A little too shiny to be used...

And you bought a GoPro? From rags to riches again, eh? ;)

You installed a new exhaust and still didn't drive it Sunday? Boo...

Guy said it had less than 1k miles and cleaned it before shipping, don't really care since its in great shape. I got Jess's gopro, thought it was a good deal.

And I got promoted, so the little extra cash is nice. Snow was coming down when I left my place, didn't want to risk it.

Yeah, the 6 speed with the factory rear gear is like rowing a boat. Gotta shift to 3rd to hit 60. The other gear helps a lot, especially when you have a few mods on the car. The taller gear doesn't hurt as much as you would normally think.

Essentially, it puts the car really close to the combo of a 5 speed with the factory gear. Max speed in 2nd is really similar between the two. Cruising RPM comes really close as well.

I keep forgetting the MSM's have a 6-speed. I didn't realize there was that much a difference between the 5-speed 5th (.8xx:1) and thre 6-speed 6th (.xxx:1). Makes sense on the lower gears though.

It's not all that great of a difference. Those gear in between tho. Those are fuckers.

Had the car tuned by Ken Hill, what a nice guy and he really knows his stuff. 2 hours on the dyno and 1 on the street. This is the sheet I got, next weekend I'm going to the dyno I went last time to get a good comparison of what was gained with the Hydra, injectors and catback. Chart shows the first and last runs, the dip around 5k was a misfire, turns out my plugs weren't gapped properly so we fixed that.

Very happy with the results, gained 40 torques and improved the curve. Also gained a bit of power and improved response. Dialed in the boost controller between pulls (7 total), did I say I like the results?

Shot of Ken setting things up and video of the last run. I had the gopro running so I have video of Ken doing his magic, but the camera didn't pick up the sound so you can't hear s***.

I thought you said you were supposed to have around 250? Weak... ;)

The dyno sheet from FM shows 230, but I'm guessing that's with the modified stock turbo. In order to get 250 I'd have to upgrade the turbo, that's what Ken has on his car. The numbers may not look impressive, but driving it is amazing so I'm very happy.

Also, if I change the correction on the dyno sheet I can get to 200, but that would be cheating ;)

Haha, just busting your balls, buddy. I'm sure that power feels great in such a little car. :)
