I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence, but I think I've seen more P5s with one blown headlight than ones with good headlights. What gives?

haha when the AC kicks on, theres this surge in our electrical system. i guess that surge makes our bulbs not last as long. haha happens everytime when ya sit at a stop light and see ur headlights flicker xD

this is so true. i'm on my second set in barely over a year. and i saw another p5 two days ago with this famous "cyclops" syndrome. all too common!

It goes further than A/C. I dont have air conditioning and I go through a bulb every 3 months or so. I think it has more to do with the alternator output in general

odd. ive yet to replace a bulb on my car. had it for a little over 3 years now and havent had a single bulb go. *knock on wood*

My first bulbs lasted about 4 years so I've never experienced this myself, it's just odd seeing it on the street all the time.

Stock bulbs last quite a while...
My SilverStars[tm] last EXACTLY six months.

But when they work - i love 'em! Bad habit, i guess.

xD haha i love my silverstars too. for some reason its brighter than my dads silverstars on his 4runner and theyre brand new bulbs haha

I've got Osram Silverstars on right now. Almost a year now. Hopefully they last a lot longer than those Sylvania Silverstars.

My Osram Silverstars lasted me for 2 1/2 years, then I traded my P5 in earlier this month. They were still burning brightly. The Sylvania Silverstars that I had lasted me right at six months. The two bulb types share the name Silverstar, but they are not the same. Get the Osram Silverstars and they should last you a few years.

recall?

Does anyone know if this was a recall? I thought I saw on a website that there was a recall through the company that makes the bulb. It may have been cars.com. I had already replaced the bulb so I did not pay much attention to the website.

My drivers side headlight is starting to blink on me...I just give it a lil tap and it lights up again. Either a wire is loose, or the bulb is starting to go on me. First time I had a problem in 2+ years.

Just now on the 2nd set of Sylvanias now since Jan04, still have one from the original set left for spare..............??????????????????????????????

I replaced the stock lows with sylvania silverstars and my driver side went out bout a month ago... i notice the flickering even when I use my power windows.. something up with the electrical in our cars i guess...

...I'll have to try the osram's do they perform as good as the sylvania's?

That depends on your view on performance. They are not as white as the sylvanias, and according to some vision research, that is a good thing, as humans perceive the most contrast when things are lit under yellow light. They are slightly brighter than the stock bulbs, but have a similar yellow hue. In other words, they won't look like fake HIDs, but they should light up the road in front of you more effectively.

ive got hellas in my lows right now
still have stock highs
still have the stock lows at the house
i have night blindness though and the stock lows dont cut it for me, i cant see anything at night with em. but theyve lasted me since 02, being swapped in and out when an aftermarket bulb blows.

Sylvania's response...

So I was curious as to the exact diff. between the "osram silverstars" and the "sylvania silverstars" so I wrote the C.S. dept. an email. this was there response... hope it is informative if anything.... :)

"Good Morning Scott,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your inquiry. There is
a difference between the OSRAM SilverStars and the Sylvania SilverStars.
The Sylvania (North American) SilverStar bulbs have an amethyst blue
coating to help give the whiter light appearance. The European (OSRAM)
SilverStar does not have this coating; their light is more yellow, like
the SYLVANIA (US) XtraVision product line. Both products offer greater
luminance (increased brightness) when compared to standard halogen
products.

I don't believe you will be able to find OSRAM SilverStar lamps at
retail locations here in the United States. We don't recommend that you
use the OSRAM SilverStars simply because government regulations in the
US and Europe differ dramatically, and you may find that you're
operating lamps that are not DOT compliant.
