P5 versus rsx type-s

i stop at a light and there is an rsx-s first in line at the light, and i am directly behind him, i casually look to my right and see another rsx sitting there behind a mini van. i was out and about just cruising around and if a race happened to come along so be it. i had one friend in my car along with me, and the guy with the rsx-s was by himself. i say to my friend, hey there's a type-s maybe i should race him, so he says go for it. it obviously wasn't a race RACE because i started behind him. but anyway, we start off just driving normally, (keep in mind we are not racing yet) and i let him get about 4-5 car lengths ahead of me and then i tromp in it, i guess he sees my front end lift a little so he gets on it, and i move over to the right hand lane and proceed to take the type-s out. i was so amazed at my p5. and i am absolutely sure that he was racing because my friend was watching him the whole time. i would have raced longer but there was a car coming up in front of me really fast so i slowed down. we were going about 90-95 mph when i came upon the other car. then later down the road i got around the car that was in my way (normal speed) 40-50 mph and proceeded to keep next to him keeping it in high rpm trying to get him to go again, but he didn't want anymore. so i just drove on my merry way happy with my car : )

you better have Turbo to even compare your P-5 to a Type-S or that guy was in 6th gear flooring it the whole time, cause a Type-S is way to powerful against a protege5 which i don't think you have any sort of F/I or Major N/A mods to your p5.
 
to tell you the truth i have no a/c, no p/s and everything that goes with those two items are out of the car. no sound deadening material under the seat, and from the rear of the front seats stripped. then i have Japanese spec cams, intake, full exhaust including a header. and 10.7:1 compression pistons. also a short throw shifter retro fitted from a honda

if you look down this thread towards the bottom, i posted a 300ZX 2+2 vs. Type-S. two of my friends ran'em and overall both cars are modded with basically bolt-ons and the 3z barely beat the Type-S by only 1 car lengh. So to even think that you ran a type-S you were gaining speed from behind him which he was to late to drop into gear to give it a shot. Next time siganl a guy when going through gears, or run one from a dead stop and see what the outcome is.
 
believe it or not but my 1992 ledgen kept up side by side with a 92 300zx. my boy was piss b/c it was his 300zx and just barley beat a ledgen. hahahaha. but seriously the 300zx does about 7.2 0-60. and that is what the rsx type s does around. about mid 7 sec 0-60.
 
Yeah the 2 + 2's are pretty heavy.


Why don't they make the protege rwd? :D That would be sweet.
 
yeah but both cars are modded The 3Z has CAI, exhaust, cams, plugs/wires, Etc... The RSX-S has AEM CAI, Greddy exhaust and Type-R computer. Which makes the Type-S really fast with computer. Also it kicks I-Vtec in at 4800rpms instead of 5700rpms.
 
definetly not a sneak attack because he saw me coming up from way behind, and we were both in it for at least three gears, and he was so not late in dropping a gear. and i definetly will try to find one from a dead stop and then i will let you guys know the results from that too
 
Sure the RSX is powerfull, but stock is very restricted. Ive seen it a lot on the tracks and the best it can do "stock" is 15.5.

Man, I like your mods, a lot!!!, but, how much did you spend?
Have you ever took it to the 1/4 mile?
Thats the way I was going for the mods, but....already spent 500+ on the intake and exhaust and it gave me nuthin, side by side with a stock P5....maybe injen did not engineered well the intake. I even feel the car stronger with his short stock intake and a K&N filter.

I think im going turbo.

So from the mods you listed that should be good for 20-30whp?

How much weight did you take out?
 
Wow I dunno about running an RSX-s, I ran one on the freeway and got burned hard (before I turbo'd) and I like to think I'm pretty heavily modded; Mazdaspeed exhaust camshaft, J spc intake camshaft, MHP CAI w/ aem bypass, magnaflow cat back, UR crank pulley, Kartboy short shifter & bushing, ground control coilover, and I was full out gutted. just a drivers seat, no inside door panels or seats.

stock IS very restricted...it's a huge mass of black plastic. i've seen dyno charts of people gaining 12-15hp from an Injen short ram.

from owning a RSX-S, i can vouch for the fact that they are VERY easy to sneak attack. that happened to me a lot, actually...i start off from a light normally, and the guy in the Camaro/VW/etc next to me guns it from about 15mph, right after i've shifted to 2nd. no chance. :(

starting from a roll in the right gear though, they can be tough. esp through third gear (60-85 mph).
 
on actual performance parts i spent about 1000 bucks. on repair parts like gaskets and valves and a valve job and other misc parts and services about another 1000, but i did most of the labor myself, only thing i didn't do was the head work. and if you haven't blown your engine already (which is why i needed repair work) you shouldn't have to get a valve job or anything like that so about 1500 bucks, haven't taken it to the 1320 yet, but i probably will around march or so, maybe earlier if i can, the mods i listed properly tuned with a good piggyback or the like can yield about 40-50whp or more depending on how much is done to the car. i really want to get it dynoed very soon so i can see for sure, i just hope i'm not to dissapointed, i took about 200lbs out. as for running with the type-s, i feel even from a stop i would have taken it, mainly because when in 1st-3rd gear my car pulls like crazy now. afrey2002 our mods are basically the same, same camshafts, you have ud pulley i have no a/c or p/s pulleys to drag on the engine, we both have an intake, i have full exhaust including a header, and a short shifter, also i am almost fully gutted cept for the front seats and front door panels, my advantages over your car are the high comp pistons, and the full exhaust with header
 
Right on man, my props to you if you could take that RSXs, I just can't wait till I run into him now, I think he'll be pretty surpised...
 
most type-Ss with good drivers do anywhere from 15.2 - 14.7 in the quarter.

i got the emblem off my grill by cutting out the stock grill and putting a piece of gutter gaurd in its place

I have raced TypeS' from a roll, and let me tell ya, this is a little hard for me to believe. Had you both started at the same time, side by side, would have been a different story.
