P5 NA Build - Target 175whp

Car is getting fixed cosmetically, couldnt pass up the timing and quote, mountain bike racing season has started as well so my schedule is pretty booked.

Still looking forward to getting her done just have to wait a little longer....

Installed the water temp sender for the MT last night. I want to start wiring it up this weekend and have a complete "rough" install by the end of next week.

MT rough install is complete.... green led is steady on, amber led is steady on, red led is blinking slow and steady. (really really hope that isnt a sign of death!) I am having trouble connecting my laptop to the MT. The MT software wants to link to COM1 or COM2 but my usb ports are COM5 and COM6 is there a way to configure this on the MT software or my laptop?

red blinking indicates error, amber blinking is what you want - that's the ignition (stays constant when the engine is going)

you'll need to change the usb port to com1 or 2

red blinking 9 times out of 10 is CKS/CAS (the bit that everyone f*cks up every time they ever do the thing - I think twilight and I have installed a half dozen of these things in a variety of different cars, and never got the CKS/CAS wiring perfect first time)...

But the only way to really tell is to put the laptop on it and check the error codes... its not a sign of death, sign of death is puff of smoke, and the smell of burnt out capacitors...

Thanks guys, I am going to get a chance tonight to hook up the laptop and check the error codes.

No smoke, or smelly burned capacitors...

Man! I am really anctious to see how much HP's this thing is going to put out. Way to stay with the project. Keep it up!

Still not having any luck connecting the laptop to both the LC-1 and MT software. I think its the usb to DB9 adapter cable. I tried re-installing the drivers but no go.

I will be trying some more experiments tonight... dragging the PC with built in serial ports out to the garage!!

you do have the laptop/PC dongle don't you?

def wont work w/o the dongle

chances are the serial to usb connector thing isnt working. i know some have problems, some do not (aka mine doesnt). another problem i had when i use mine is that the modem is in com2 and i have to disable it in the bios before the MT will work, otherwise it sometimes works, sometimes does not

Turns out my db9 to usb adapter was at fault for the 'no connection to ECU'

hooked up the MT to the PC and connected instantly. My error was the water temp sensor. I just the LC-1 reprogrammed to send a wideband 0-5V signal to the MT as well. Talked to Turfburn a few times.... figured out my coils wernt firing, it ended up being a blown fuse.

Tried to start up the car on the 280cc map no luck adjusted mixtrim by 4% until I got to 20% still no signs of life, not even a hiccup. My WB was dipping down to high 16s - low 17s. I'll try again in tomorrow, need some shut eye.

Good news you got the Bugs worked out. Now to breath life into the heart

SHE LIVES!!!!

I had some of the crank sensor wiring messed up. Once that was fixed she fired up on the first try! idles semi-smoothly around 800-1000 with AFR's in the 12-13 range. Tomorrow I hope to get her on the road and try to dial in afrs a little better. I'm hopefully going to be hooking up with Steve (turfburn) from NSN for a full tune within a month or so.... Then to the dyno!
