Help! I moved to Colorado from Texas about 4 months ago. About 2 months ago, the CEL in my 2005 Mazda 3 (2.3L I4 67K) came on. I checked it and the codes read "P0455 - EVAP Emission Control System Leak (Large)" and "P2187 - System too lean at idle speed (Bank 1)." I cleared the codes to see if they would come back on and they never did. I didn't worry about it. Until two days ago. MY CEL came back on and this time the code is just "P2187 - System too lean at idle speed (Bank 1)." And so here I am.
The mechanic thinks it might be an O2 sensor causing the computer to idle the engine outside the correct idle parameters (causing the error code). But I'm suspicious having had this a while back.
Any suggestions? If you reply, please spell out the acronyms (CEL is really the only one I know. And FUBAR.) Any help would be great! I found another post ( http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123685148 )that was similar to this one but it had 18 different suggestions and I don't have the cash to try them all.
