It's either the thermostat or the temp sensor.

I'm leaning towards the thermostat being partially opened all the time. I haven't really looked for it. Anybody know if it is buried somewhere only accessible by people with baby hands?

It cant be too bad. I was blown away by all the room in the engine compartment when I saw this car.

I havent looked on this car but from previous experiences follow the big hoses from the Radiator to the engine and it SHOULD be at the end of one of them.

Good luck.

Problem is there are two big hoses (and bunch of smaller ones). One set terminates under the alternator and the other terminates on the other side of the engine block. (confused)

Look to the right at the screen , there is 4 letters you have to enter in the small box next to this text: Enter the text above
Then you can download the file.(burnout)

That service manual has been inactive for over 30 days, so it was deleted.

Anyone have a fresh link???

If your thermostat is partially opened all the time, it will take a lot longer for the engine to warm. If you suspect this and cannot verify that it's taking longer, let it run longer in the morning before you take off and make sure the heater is off. An open thermostat is not good for the engine. I know, I have the same problem on my old pickup right now.

After taking a good, hard look at the thermostat, I decided to pay someone to do it.

The new OEM Mazda t-stat was installed and the car has had multiple cycles and no CEL.

So, it cost me about $200 to get the t-stat replaced., but while they had the car, they tightend up the end links that were loose and clunking around. The mechanic also found that the rear passenger spring seat had come dislodged and was hanging down the inside of the spring. This was corrected as well.

MD5 I live in Plano in DFW, who/where is your mechanic? Thanks in advance

I did the T-stat. Of course, we put <10K on it a year, but its been almost 1 1/2 years w/the Duralast T-stat/housing that was $30. DIY is a bit of a pain, b/c you REALLY should lift the car so you can do as much work from underneath as possible. The housing is right there behind the alt and immediately under, nearly inside, the intake.
