Overboost problem-- HELP!

Hey guys,
had the MSP for a few years now and it has been completely stock except for the "spring" mod.
So i installed a mechanical boost gauge last weekend and a catless TBE (i actually just had the cats removed and left the stock racingbeat muffler bceause i didn't want anything obnoxiously loud---just wanted to free up some airflow).

Came home and reset the ECU (disconnect battery, pump brakes). The car ran great for about a week---no CEL, slight backfire here and there, and boost was holding perfectly at 7 to 7.5 in 3rd gear.

So i got in it the other night to go for a drive. let the car warm up and everything, went to get on it in 2nd and overboosted to 10psi and the fuel cutoff. Drove around a little bit more (very carefully watching the boost gauge) and then got on it a few more times----no problems at all. All back to normal with the boost holding nicely at around 7.

Get in it today. (remembering my overboost issue) to see what happens. Once again, go to get on it---overboost. But this time i was VERY careful and watched the gauge the whole time and had my foot ready on the clutch, so as soon as it started to go up i let off and clutched in (hit about 8 or 9psi).
Drove around a little more----same thing, different gears. I never let it go past 8 or 9 and always clutched in. But this was happening at QUARTER THROTTLE.

What gives!?

Side note-- both nights it was rather cold out (low 30s), and tonight it is damp.

What should i do?? (btw still no CEL or anything)

sounds like your wastegate is starting to s*** the bed. do you have a boost controller?.. cuz you should be running 6.5psi on the stock turbo.

He's got the spring mod so the elevated boost over norm is to be expected; but so is the increase in boost and resulting cut from the cold weather. MSP's just don't like cold weather at full throttle in stock trim. Just give it part throttle when its that cold out to avoid the cut.

If I was literate, I guess I would have noticed that (yippy)

Update:
So i actually found out the car was still under warranty----until tomorrow!
(call it luck i guess).
So i got back from class today and removed the spring and drove to the stealership (my local dealer is actually real cool----sponsors me for autox).
So as expected, driving to the dealership and even without the spring it was overboosting.
Technician verified it was the wastegate (which is what i thought to begin with----thanks to reading a bunch of threads here). They tested it and found that it wasn't opening until 10psi. So parts are ordered and i take it back next week to get it fixed under warranty.

Man was i lucky...
