I was showing a couple of my friends my mp5. One of em got into the passenger side and started shifting the stick while the clutch wasnt depressed. The car wasnt started tho. I was like "argh!! what are you doing?!" Does that shifting while the clutch is out and the car off hurt your tranny?

i'm not sure, but you should have put him on the spot, made him feel like a moron for messing with your stuff. even if it doesnt mess it up, i still don't go into other people's car and start playing with their stuff, it's just not cool

As a general rule, always press down the clutch before shiftin gears. It just seems better that way, eh?

Slap da shizz outa him!! A general rule of thumb that EVERYONE here knows(even the little punk azz richie rich brats) is NEVER mess with another guys car...ever! I have seen people get laid out for leaning on someones new car many times. The area I live in people take pride in 3 things. Thier cars, thier guns, and familys.

As far as it damaging, I am not totally sure, but I would have to say there must be some sort of damage that can come from it. Anytime you shift without the clutch in it can cause issues.

Dont worrie man it wont hurt the car. the whole point of the clutch is to diss-engage the gears from the engine so that they meet RPMs when you put it in gear... since the car was off no gears were spinning therefore they were sitting still and when you put them in gear the sound is the two gears linning up. it just sounds like your killing your car the way it sounds but it doesnt hurt it... but yea i would still slap da shizz outa him as andrewf150 put it! lol

oh sht thanks man....hehe. I am so relieved now. Thought he had irrevocably and permanently hurt my baby! NOBODY touches my car from now on, except for maybe chicks I give rides to. The only shift knob they can touch is the one on my body. Not the one on my baby.

actually it wont hurt the car if the car is off, u'll notice it'll slip into gear quite easily wiht the car off. with the car on however tyr it wont work unless cluctch is depressed it wont hurt anythign is the car is off ;op
