"You get those speakers in yet? I am very interested in the outcome especially if they sound a lot better!"
I'll let you know, got the speaker baffles I plan to use today and there very very nice (Gonna save me from doing to much crazy Sound Deadening, trying to save weight). My stereo has a bad hum in it right now on the AUX port, so I am waiting for a new radio from Mazda, should be in next week. I'll prob have the speaker put in in next few weeks. I'm totally removing the tweeters as I think there location makes em a little screechy in my right ear, plus those JBL's are gonna put out plenty of HIGHS.
I should probably let you in on what I'm trying to do with this stereo. I'm trying to get as much clean loud sound out of the Factory Head-unit and No Sub-woofer. I like the look of the dash and have a 60Gig Ipod and a New Blackberry Curve(Red and Black of course LOL) with GPS that I have Belkin Cup-Holder TuneDoks holding them. So I have the Blackberry in the front Cup-Holder and my Ipod in the rear one and I have all the wires run underneath the Center Console into a Cig lighter splitter I was able to run under the AUX port(Trimming under neath to make it the wire fit flush) to the Cig lighter output in the Center Console.
OK, then I ran a Monster cable Ipod Connector that charges and has a Headphone jack on it which attaches to my IPOD in Cup-Holder and both the Monster Cable Charger and the 1/8" headphone jack I ran up thought the little square piece that is removable that allows tightening of the Parking Brake without removing center console.
For the Blackberry I just ran a charging cable up through the Cup-Holder, there's plenty of space if you look close up to the Blackberry to keep it constantly charge when on trips as it uses the battery pretty fast with the GPS going.
I made this way confusing, just to sum the above rambling is:
I Have:
A BB that is charging
An Ipod that is charging
A Headphone cable run to Aux in the CC.
A PAC Ground loop isolator also under CC because as all us IPOD people know there is a bad Ground Loop when you try to charge and play at same time(This has been talked about at length)
When u look though the only wires that are under my center Console Armrest is a Cig Lighter plug and wire(Maybe 3 inches) that runs under the AUX port with just enough slack to unplug. Then a Headphone cable (Its Actually the other side of the Ground Loop Isolator cable) coming up from other side of AUX Jack (Had to Trim that too) and plugged into the AUX jack Headphone Jack.
It all looks nice and neat, I should say it did till I noticed the Hum in my radio and now I was going to have to go to the dealer and so I had to rip it all out as I didn't want them to think it was something I did and after I removed everything it turned out it is the Actual radio itself so waste of time, should have left it all in as he didn't even consider that it could be my turbo timer, he was cool with all my mods.
So what did u ask me. lol
I'll let you know how they sound, I'm really trying to keep it very basic with the sound system. I already have the AMP I plan to install with Line-Level Inputs and its only a 300 watt Amp so I'm hoping to wire it in where the stock BOSE AMP is (Under Drivers Seat) and use all the existing wiring, power and speaker, I'll run a nice thick Ground nearby AMP. I'm gonna remove the Sub woofer (Use that weight for Sound Deadening/Sealing) under drivers seat and just use the JBL 6x8's for all sound, it won't pound, but I'm betting it has allot more Bass then when Stock, and way louder and cleaner, plus I'm getting old and just like loud and clean, Don't pound Dynamix much anymore...LOL, If I did, I'd add Subs.
The majority of the noise that come from this car seems to come from underneath and top and windshield, Completely going crazy with the doors isn't gonna help that much, except for a little Sound Quality for speakers.
I will be doing the speakers first with the stock amp so If you weren't planning on replacing amp I'll keep it that way probably a full week and will right a review of em with stock AMP.
Easiest question ever, longest answer ever, gonna post this so others can read also. Sorry so long, planning and typing at same time.
Any comments or suggestions welcome, other then "Run new speaker wire" and "Run a new Power wire" Have heard those and will if I am not happy, but its such a PITA running new speaker wire, power isn't to crazy for just 1 300 watt amp, but I'm gonna try it with the stock stuff first.
As all the stuff is still out for dealer warranty work, even though they didn't care, they may need to get in there and my appt is Tuesday so its only a few days, otherwise you wouldn't have had to listen to this "Zork" explanation and I could have posted pics, will post pics next week after appt.
Hope this helps someone,
Tom
