Ordered Rooftop Cargo Carrier

Just ordered the Thule rooftop cargo box for my P5. Doesn't seem to be a popular accessory, but I want it for trips and camping. I think it's pretty good looking. I'll let you know for sure when I get it.

JD - Buddy of mine bought the Yakima basket -- he also has two bike carriers on either side of it. Very cool!

Let me know how it works out...I'll be looking for rack accessories in the Spring.

I have the Yakima with two bike carriers, but havent bought a bin yet.

How much weight can we put up there? I thought it was 75 lbs but I could be mistaken

lol i used a cheap wal-mart rack bag up there when i was moving. . i think put those big plastic storage bins there so it looked like a box (worked really well and only cost me 40 bux)

sweet! i'll have to look into that when i move. how much was it and how's it look? pics will be greatly appreciated. it's on my shopping list of mods. heh heh.

I believe the owners says the limit is 175lbs. Check me on that...more than enough for two bikes! ;)

Tonk - Thanks for correcting me. I was thinking 165, but it didn't sound right. Guess I should trust my instincts more. lol

JD - Nice choice...I like the versatility of the P5, which is why I'm buying one. That's exactly why I don't mind the rails on the roof. It's not like the rack is permanently fixed there.

I gotta check out the Yakima site and see what fits out racks. Have fun!

i like the roof bag better. . . .15 cuft for 30 bux and the plastic boxes to go inide for 10 bux to make it waterproof

Yeah, the problem I have with that is our roofs dont have any rails to support weight. I'm planning on loading the cargo box with lots of camping gear and I don't want to dent the smooth roof.

got any pics of the car with the cargo bin on?

No. I was going to snap a few digi-pics today before I took it off, but I didn't. There's another thread here where someone took a pic of the cargo box. It's on an aftermarket rack though.

Hey jack - I'm in the market for a rooftop cargo box, too. I was just fixin' to post on this topic - I saw a good review on the thule 667 on epinions.com from a Protege5 owner. Sounds like you got good price, too. My question, before buying it online - how much room for luggage would you say it has? Can you fit two medium/large-ish suitcases up there? The whole family -- me & the dear wife up front, baby in back seat and two dogs in the way-back -- are gonna be taking a lot trips come the holidays. And my wife likes to pack a lot of s**** (..I mean essential items) on trips like this. Thanks

BTW Jack and Ginger is my current drink of choice...when I can't afford Makers
