mazda 2 touring
Ok...Here is the scene. I am almost a Mazda 2 Touring owner. I wanted a Blue Touring with 5-speed. None of the 48 states had a 2011 so we had to order a 2012 and give the dealer $500 at the first of this month. Received update Thursday that the car is on boat and should have the car no later than Thanksgiving. Slight increase on MSRP by $150.

So hear is what I am asking since there has been 0 paperwork (except for the check). Is it customary to pay Full sticker? Because I "would" like to pay a little less OR get free window tint. Bear in mind this is a different scenario due to the fact that Japan had the earthquake etc. and the the U.S. does NOT get flooded with 2's anyway. And Also,... most the times when you order a car, you agree on price, and then give a check to secure the car once the VIN is identified.

So I would like to hear some of your voices on this. I am not going to risk forfeiting the $500 but would like to know what I could expect. It seems to me that a blue 5-speed touring should be on the lot (with other 2012 2's) around that time anyway.

Knowledge is power. The first thing you should discover is whether your deposit is refundable. In California, it is always refundable, and I'd be surprised if the same weren't true in Texas also.

Next, I'd assume that the dollars-off discounts are, or soon will be, the same for 2012 models as for 2011. There are posts about this. Time is your friend, and the 2 is a slow mover so don't be bullied by any dealer.

Did the dealer mention what would be new for the 2012s? I see virtually no difference by looking at the 2 elsewhere worldwide.

you should have been able to do much better than sticker, because it will be a "presold" car,
I ordered my white 2012 speed 3 with tech pack, fully loaded, I did some research and paid invoice, you should be able to do the same

there are no physical changes for 2012 aside from that the automatic supposedly is rated at 1mpg more.

The General Sales mgr. told me the only way to lose the deposit is if I decide to back out. No mention what the scenario would be if we didn't come to terms on the sales price...BUT perhaps that would be backing out too.

Like I said the car lots should begin getting in 2012's when mine arrives. And that being the case, I would postured my offer from the info received at Edmunds. And I know that there isn't a LOT of room to negotiate on these cars. Living in a bigger city, I could have easily kept track of the inventories online.

.......Maybe the dealer/salesman wanted me to order so that I would have been locked in so-to-speak.

yeah.....it was a week later after I gave my check that the salesman learned the MSRP. Where did you find the invoice price? Edmunds?

When I bought my M2, no dealerships were moving much off sticker. But I also bought the base car so less room to play with due to high profit option packages. The dealer tint is way overpriced so while you might get the $500 tint for free, I've always paid under $200 for tints from a place that does the dealership tints anyway. I'd rather negotiate cash.

I've never ordered a car but in the cases I've seen, you usually pay sticker. Either way you "should" have negotiated any price before ordering. While you can back out of the deal, the dealer is less willing to budge on a pre-order since you've already taken the bait. The difference between msrp and invoice on mine was very little so a big disappointment in those terms.

there are several resouces to find the dealer invoice, which is different than consumer invoice, of course the less expensive the smaller mark up they have, a 15000 dollar car has a smaller margin to move on price vs a 25000 dollar car

it looks like a fully loaded 2, there is only about 400-700 mark up!
with good credit you can argue the interest rate
with more money down you canaslo buy down the rate

Based on the '12 Australian-market Mazda2 (already launched), there will be additional airbags standard, the automatic transmission is good for 1 MPG more, and the Sport trim will now have cruise control standard. Other world Mazda2 websites have shown Bluetooth standard but only with the Touring/automatic combo. Odd.

Thanks Asherton for all your input!

I still want to know how I am supposed to settle on a deal when the dealer doesn't have "Any" new info on the car. MSRP or equipment etc.? The salesman couldn't even tell me what the price increase would be etc.
