Just wondering what others think.

I personally don't like the plastic trim that goes all the way around the bottom. In the way of looks, I would prefer it to be painted with the rest of the body. It also makes cleaning/detailing a bit more work since you need to care for them differently.

Do you think Mazda did that to cut costs? Or is it for a more practical reason?

this is actually one of the things that kept me from looking at a 9 for a long time (until my wife said we're getting one)
I was only looking at black ones, since this minimized the look of the black trim, but as it turns out, we got a dolphin blue one...

I don't think it was to cut costs, goodness, it's a $30K car! I think it's a design element of some sort, though I still don't like it.

A design element that says "a little less luxury" (headshake...IMO...but something we'll need to live with...but yeah, still don't like it.

i hate them. cheap plastic. so cheap with all this snow and hard rock ice in NYC it has dented and cracked the part under the passengers side fog lights while parallel parking. so damn pissed about it. im hoping i can push it out.

Yikes, that definitely sucks.
