One year and 26k miles later....

I hit my 1 year anniversary last week and have over 26k miles on the 5.

It's been a very good car, the only glitch or problem has been the hiccup a couple of times during cold weather.

I would rate this car highly as far as it's performance and utility.

26K!?!? Wow, I just passed 16k and I'm on 15 months of ownership. It doesn't get very cold in Orlando, so the crunching noise is really my only mechanical issue.

I am getting worried about the plastics holding up over time, but I knew that was why the price was so good and accepted it.

I just got mine (3 weeks ago) and it wasn't that cold here in NJ, but im afaraid of that noise, is there any way to fix that?... in case that i get it on the winter.
Thx

From reading this board over the past year I gather that early 5s were most affected, and later 5s aren't as bad. There is a TSB (see the TSB sticky) that addresses the squeaking problem for 5s built before a certain date, and some have had success in getting their dealers to order the new bushings even if their 5 wasn't officially included. We didn't hear a sound until the temp got under 10F, which rarely happens in Maryland and in NJ unless you happen to be in the northwest corner.

Do not worry

I can attest to that too. We are from Toronto, have a 2007 Canadian GT and only experienced the squeaking sound from the suspension for <10 days in the winter when it got really cold. Other than that, there has been no problem and a pleasure to drive.

We had it fixed twice, but...still adore our 5.

We just got the newest updated bushing replacements. Everything looks OK thus far. I'm also a bit annoyed with the plastics, but hey, for under $20,000 something has to give (many of the people who complain frequenctly forget that everything comes at a price). Given the utility and performance of this car I can more than forgive these "small annoyances". We purchased one of the earlier 5's and with the exception of those annoyances find it to be VERY reliable and fun.

The next time you get annoyed at one of the 5's small issues, just flog it around a few corners and all will be forgiven. :-) Oh and after a few trouble-free years those scracthes and scuffed plastics will be considered as adding more character to the car :-)

If you are referring to my post about the crunching noise, take you car into the dealer and tell them you have the crunching sound that Mazda released the service bulletin for. It's the front suspension, nothing bad, jut makes a noise sometimes. Take a few hours to fix if they have the parts.
