Once a lurker, now an owner

I have been hanging around the site for a while, reading as much as I can. I finally purchased a P5 this past weekend - 2003 silver w/5-speed, leather, sunroof, injen intake, racing beat catback, 63k miles. The car is immaculate - the owner was extremely anal with the upkeep. I have previously owned several sports cars, all V8s. The P5 is a nice surprise...it's a blast to drive. It's light, handles extremely well, and the interior is nicer than I expected. I think for the price point, it's hard to find something that meets so many different requirements.

I'm sure I will be asking many questions. Right now I'm thinking about getting the urethane shifter bushings to tighten up the shifting.

Are there any other 60k mile maintenance issues I should be looking at? Plugs/wires, timing belt, etc?

Thanks for the help-
cp

Well, I guess I can't exactly say "Welcome" since you're not exactly new here.
Anyways, I like the wheels + the color of your p5.

Welcome to the Mazda family.

Timing belt @ 60k (our motor is non-interference though) along with all the other usuals (plugs, oil, filter, etc) Also might want to look into changing tranny fluid @ the same time.

Sean

BTW nice lookin P5!

Cool score, run with it. If car has been maintained that well (looks like it has been) shouldn't be much to do. Just normal maint stuff like check the timing belt, fluids, brake pads, plugs maybe. Welcome to the forums.*edit* 2003? Check to see if recall on VICS screws falling in intake has been performed. Search on VICS here for more info.

Thats good stuff, you lucked out. (thumb)

I just did my tranny flush, $135 at the dealership. After that all you need to do is slap on some Tokicos and drop it.

(2thumbs) I'll bet that your brake fluid is due for a change. You'll find that your new ride makes you feel like you stayed at a Motel 6 (random reference) every time you get behind the wheel. Score on the RB cat-back!

Thanks for the welcome and recommendations- The owner recently changed the tranny fluid and put redline in. I want to put better plugs/wires in...I'm just not sure that a lot of money for wires is worth it.

I will do a brake job soon...question is, I want to go with better than oem pads. I've seen hawk and green stuff at protege garage; can anyone recommend others or have experience with these?

Also, does anyone have the urethane shifter bushings? Do they help?

Thanks again-

money spent on wires is pretty useless. If you need to replace them get OEM or NGK (I think the NGK ones are the OEM anyway).

As for brake pads.. I've been really satisfied with my KVR CF pads, but I always see people pushing the Hawk HPS.. they're what I'll probably go with next.

Glad you're enjoying "My" car. I wouldn't change the plugs- I put in NGK Iridium plugs within the last couple of months (check the receipts). New wires may be a slight improvement. If you check the manual, I don't think the timing belt is due til 90-100K.

This only goes to prove that you can lurk so long before being sucked in...hahaha

Congrats on the purchase...car looks immaculate and the rims look great with the silver. I would also suggest dropping it.

yes that badboy is in "4x4 mode". looks real clean, and happy yur enjoying your new addiction.(glare)

And the previous owner speaks! :D

Ha Ha! I was wondering if Jeremy was on this board. I must say, kudos to Jeremy. I know he was not wanting to part with the car...It is by far the cleanest P5 I've seen for sale in the last 6 months, not to mention the upgrades he put on the car. I'm anxious to see if he gets the MazdaSpeed3.

I will be purchasing the Kartboy bushings soon.

NGK spark plugs...sorry about that Jeremy, I haven't had a chance to go through the receipts yet.

I'm also not sure if I want to lower it or not as I am concerned with clearance.
