Now we have our own thread to discuss why we don't believe all that cartoon "Guy sitting in a big chair in the clouds fighting with a guy in a red suit with horns" stuff that wankers have been using to keep the masses in line since the beginning of civilization. At the best it's a way for innocents to bring order out of the chaos that is the universe. Personally I don't believe in Jesus and miracles any more than I believe in Zeus throwing lightning bolts from Mount Olympus or Ganesh being an elephant head with 12 arms or being reborn into another body or Aliens etc...etc...

religion is total bulls***? i highly don't think so. as human beings, we have been looking for the answer to questions that no one has answers to since the first prehistoric man walked the face of the earth.

religion, or rather, a person's religiosity, is as big a part of being human as breathing and shitting. do you think civilization could have gotten to where it was without religion? i don't think so.

and on to this thing about you not believing in blah blah blah... well, i got news for you buddy... your lack of belief in certain religious figures in and of itself is also a belief system. you go on it by faith, just like those who have religion.

so for future reference, please abstain from naming off particular religious figures who obviously holds some significance to some people. be atheist, be panreligious, be gnostic for all i care. just don't go bashing other people's religion.

it'll be fine if he went back and edited the parts that will offend the majority of people on here. if it started and ended with the fact that he thinks organized religion is a bunch of hogwash, that's fine. but to single out any given religion is just wrong, especially on a multicultural and multireligious site as this.

so your premise for bringing up this whole thread was your beef with the way the christian world has created western civilization. there's much more to the creation of western civilization than some "cartoon guy sitting in a big chair in the clouds fighting with a guy in a red suit with horns." it does, however, revolve around the notion of religion and gods. that's all i'm saying. take the christian attack out of your statement and you're good.

the fact of the matter is..noone has any idea about s***..they just go on believing what they are brought up to believe and are satisfied with it..to some, the idea of an intellectual lifeform like us humans coming from some single celled ameoba sounds ridiculous, but how convincing does it wounds to say, "God said let there be people and whamo there are people"..I mean come on..How would this ultimate being know how to create humans, which are so ridiculously detailed ESPECIALLY when it comes to the inner workings of the body..he must have had to do some trial and error? I personally think that everyone is entitled to believing their own ideas when it comes to the creation of man, but it really upsets me to see people delve their lives so far into religion when you really have no idea if it is all a hoax..just something to keep the masses in check..Another thing that greatly bothers me, is that like 70% of the people in the major religions today never even decided to be in that religion..they wrere just born and became whatever mommy and daddy were and that was that..it is like thinking for yourself never comes into play

i never said anyONE has the answer. that's why there are different religions and different belief systems. people's world view changes over time and over encounters with others. but to discount religion's significance is not only foolish, it's also ignorant.

and where would we be without mesopotamia? or ancient egypt? or where would china be? or india? remember, these places didn't get the shaft of the christian world. yet their predicament is similar to anyone else's.

now on to something for you to think about. communism... yep. that was a godless, humanistic, equal social theory. however, like all other theories in socialism, it did not work in practice. look at china's 'inquisition' in tibet. do you think that has religious significance? sure it does. millenia old tibetan buddhist doctrine and temples have been destroyed in the name of a godless, egalitarian state. now i ask you, what is the significance of religion? but your argument that religion has caused great harm, i.e. the crusades and the inquisition can also be refuted with the fact that a seemingly godless entity who is living for the here and now has caused the mass exodus of a whole country.

dude quit bein so cocky..your defending your big argument "where would we be without religion?" like mad, when it has absoultely nothing to do withthe topic...Just because many world events are based on religion, DOES NOT MEAN ITS REAL. This topic was started about people who do not believe in religious practicing, basically everyone who thinks its bulls***..just becuase religion helped shape the modern world does not mean that what these people believed was true..

and like i said, christiany(catholicism in particular) is just the easierst to pick on since it is the belief of the majority of the masses around us
