Ok so is this a pretty decent deal??

Yeah man Id jump on that price, maybe try to work them down more to get an even better deal out of it but that is a pretty good price and very low miles. Suggested retail on kbb.com is like 14k so I think your gettin a pretty good price. Just one question, whats that sticker above the p5 emblem?

i went and looked at it and it's mint. Older couple traded it in on a buick...lol.

How many old farts do you know who put bras on their cars? Even money says the dealer put that on to hide all the paint chips on the hood and front bumper. That isn't necessarily a deal breaker, most P5s have paint chips there, as the paint chips easily. However, pull off her bra and have a look. (Wow, I never thought I'd be able to say that in a nonsexual context!) If there's paint damage you can use that to negotiate the price down. Also look carefully for chips on the fogs.

12K seems a little high to me, but then, it is pretty low mileage. If you do a lot of city driving the auto is going to cost you a lot in gas mileage. On the highway it's about on par with the manual. The ad says "single compact disc" but the picture looks like the 6 disc changer to me. If so, verify that the changer actually works. They are very touchy and tend to break easily. Bring along a bunch of CDs you don't care about, because when mine failed it started scratching CDs. You did drive it, right? The ride on the P5 is much harder than the Mazda3, be sure you can put up with the bumps.

I paid 10K even for mine on a private sale a year and a half ago. Mine was at 45K miles but had some cosmetic issues left over from a smacked left front fender, and also needed new tires.

a p5 was what i was looking into when i was in the market. but i didnt want to buy from a dealer that wasnt like solely mazda. and they didnt have any p5's on the lot. so i got an 03 lx. great car. now the modding begins.lol

but the p5 looks clean and def a nice ride for everyone.i think that sticker above the p5 emblem is probably the dealer sticker. that thing is HUUGE!.lol
if an older couple traded it in, chances are it hasnt seen much abuse, which is def a good thing. go score that thing!

Thanks for the input.

I offered them 10k for it but they said no.

I pulled the bra back and saw no damage.

The 6 disc i didnt even notice.

And my truck i'm trading is a v8 and thats the main reason i'm gonna trade it.

so the gas mileage HAS to be better than 14mpg i'm getting now..

IF being the most important part of that sentence. Car dealers are not noted for their veracity and even around here, when they say "it was owned by a little old lady from Pasadena" they are usually not telling the truth. That car just doesn't look like something any of the "older couples" I know would ever drive: bright red, bra, alloy wheels, and a really stiff ride.

I drive almost entirely in the city and mine turns in 21-23 mpg. The manuals are more in the range of 25-26 mpg in city driving. Both are around 30mpg on the highway.

I agree...but the car is spotless and since it is a buick dealership i was inclined to think they might actually be telling the truth.

Yeah, I used to work at a Toyota/Mazda dealership and was surprised at some of the random older couples that owned p5's. Yes they're stiff legged and a little flashy, but they are still practical and some older couples actually like some flashiness. I'm not saying I saw hundreds but there were a few I remember.

I paid the same price ($13,600) for mine with pretty low miles, black and yellow leather, automatic etc. And I feel like I got *****!! I love the car, but as I look around I am finding them for much less. If I were you I would definitely look around or stick to your guns on dropping that price.

i got my 03 protege from a mazdadealer for mid 11's with 46k on it. came with the factory warranty which wasnt much at all. they gave me the certified pre owned warranty ( 12k full car and then immediately following, a 38k powertrain and front end warranty.) out the door a little over 12k. 2 k down. now that i think about it, i could have talked him down a bit. cuz it always happens this way, you get the car home and then soon after you notice every ltitle scratch on the thing.lol

o well. im happy.

I got my 03.5 Silver 5spd with 62,666 miles (hehehe) for 9696$ + TTL and whatnot. 3/36 ext warranty with 0 deductible for another 1795$. I got a big dent in the hood on the 4th day i owned it after someone threw something up off the interstate. Other than that, a couple minor scratches on the bumper... can probably be gotten out.

Brand new Kumho 711's on it too, and they did a brake job on it before it got to me. (I made friends with the shop manager at their service dept, I saw the workup for all the stuff they did before it got to me). This was at a dealership. They had the car marked at 11,500... then dropped the next week to under 10k... after all was said and done, I think they only made a few hundred bucks on it (there were a couple issues that were resolved on their dime at their shop the week after I got it).

Needless to say, I'm happy enough with my deal.

**BRENT**

Ask them to remove the entire bra and inspect it for damage and or paint mismatch now due to in not being exposed to the sun like the rest of the car.

Make sure the VICS screw issue has been dealt with. There was a recall for that for certain VINs in 03. You can check the VIN on Mazda site to see if included in recall. The intake manifold should have been replaced because it would drop screws into the cylinders while running. Make them back it up with a good ole compression test for you to make sure it didn't happen already.
