oil shooting out of BOV (whats the problem?)

little more detail would help
for example modifications done to the car and such (not like i could help in anyway)

just guessing
too much oil... causing to much oil pressure... pushing oil past your turbo seals

bad turbo seals? hmmm doubt it depending on how you drive and maintain your car... but too much oil will blow past your oil seals or a clogged oil return line... both of which will cause too much oil pressure

i would try removing all associated intercooler pipes, intakes pipes, and intercooler and giving it a good cleaning with some carb cleaner... inspect the turbo for shaft play and what nots

Got Warranty?

it could just be "blow by". for example if you have a valve cover vent going to your intake and you have a little too much oil, it will vent into the valve cover vent tube into your intake which in turn will go into your compressor, then through intercooler, pipes, and eventually out your BOV. This is the function of a Oil catch can. To prevent oil from getting into your intercooler as a result of "blow by" It is very common for STI's to have "blow by" even stock. It doesn't necessarily mean your turbo seals are bad or even compromised.
I recommend taking that valve cover vent tube off and looking to see if there is residual oil in there. Or even taking off your intake pipe to the turbo and checking that. If there is oil in your intake that explains it all. If there is no oil in your intake and oil everywhere after the turbo.....maybe you have bad turbo seals.

edit:make sure you look where the intake pipe meets your turbo, not at the filter.

Someone who's PCV valve was busted had his oil dipstick blow out ... may not be related but thought I'd mention it.

i have a lot of what seems to be dried up oil on my coupler off the hot side of the turbo, i can't see any traces in my intake and also it doesn't seem like there is much of anything in the intercooler.

sorry to thread jack but my dipstick came loose the other day and the dealer just said the o ring on the dipstick was bad. they replaced it under warrenty. should i get them to check my pcv valve?

I'm not sure what the o-ring would have with preventing the dipstick from coming loose (unless it helps it seat in the pipe) ... I'd think the o-ring would be there to prevent air from escaping from the crankcase and likewise maybe some oil.

If I were you, I'd keep checking the dipstick every day and especially after driving the car in boost ... if it pops out again, I'd definitely take it back for a PCV valve check - they are a royal pain to get to though as the intake manifold had to be removed for access to the PCV valve.

awesome. thanks bud!

if there is no chance or warranty than yep probably. a new turbo would do you good.

Just my two cents

I am not too familiar with the oil systems on these cars yet, because I haven't had much warm weather to work on my car yet, but...I know many turbo cars do NOT have a stock Oil Catch Can.

I've seen this same problem with all the turbo cars I've worked on (SRT-4, DSM family, WRX, Grand National, etc.) All this might be is excessive blow by oil coming through your intercooler piping. I know this was a HUGE problem with SRT-4's (I used to own one) And while it won't really drop your engine's oil level that much, it will make a nasty mess all over the place.

So before you go assuming the worst with this problem, I would do some research on the Oil systems on these cars...If there's no stock Oil Catch Can, I would bet a million to one, that this is your problem.

Like I said, just my .02

here is what an oil catch can on this car will collect

after 500+ miles

Exactly...

So unless you are getting HUGE amounts of oil on an INSTANTANEOUS basis...I'm sure this is the problem...Nice pics Bova
