Oil Pan - Mental Addiction Motorsports

Hey Turf, the pan is not just a dish with baffles, it will have trapdoors and a replacement pickup...(yippy)

Don't worry I certainly realize there is a lot to it... just the mental equation of it being as expensive as the JandS or nearly the cost of an MPI (700+ish right?) that sticks in my head.

Worth it... DEFINITELY! If I start doing more high speed racing and see extended sweepers in my races then I'm all over this... but I'm severely strapped for cash with the engine build.

Don't think I'm being negative about the price. Beau is one of the best and most fair vendors we have and I take his word on anything. I know he wouldn't screw any of us or overprice something and with my stuff that I sell I know how much R&D costs and the like, Beau is probably about 1-2 thousand or more in all reality just making a few prototypes and iterations.

Just glad somebody did it, and hopefully enough of us buy them to make it very worth Beau's while.

True dat...
By the way, Beau is working hard on the AEM and when that is finished, you won't have to worry about picking up a J&S...

I don't know about that... from what I know of the AEM it is still not capable of the same features as the JandS. But it does give you knock prevention if I remember right from the big perfworks thread... so in that case yes it will help cover you, but it's not the same.

Well this seems to be a huge threadjack, but could you explain what the aem doesn't provide that the j&s does? I am going to work out the knock sensor features of my AEM soon. Feel free to move this to PM if you have an answer.

/threadjack

but, back on topic, $400-500 for an oil pan is a little higher than I will probably let myself spend :(... we'll see

I'll keep it short and sweet as far as the question and then we can get back to the rather good topic of this thread.

From my understanding the knock retard on the AEM is the standard full bank retard. The JandS targets individual cylinders and deals with each seperately. Additionally, the JandS has adjustable ranges and how aggressive it is at pulling timing. It also knows to listen only in the critical range rather than the entire stroke of the piston which is important in its accuracy. How much of these things the AEM does I'm not 100% confident. But my general understanding was that the AEM acts similar to a standard vehicle knock system and when it hears it it pulls timing for a period of time and then adds it back and does it on all cylinders all at once.

So this oil pan has baffling systems, a trap door, and a shrouded pickup? Is that basically the gist of things for it? Hell of a lot of systems for a lowly oil pan :) but no complaints about that! :)

We are just about finished with the pan.I will be uploading a few pictures next week.
Sexy...yes it is.
Here is what we have so far. Please keep inmind things will change a bit on the production piece.
CNC 3/8" thick billet aluminum rail
1/8" aluminum sides
Magnetic drain plug
Extra bung
5-5.5qt capacity
new pickup tube

When you're getting pics, can you snap one of the old pickup compared to the new pickup? =) That's what really cought my attention, and why I'm considering your pan above anyone elses, right now... Not that anyone else has marked any progress lately. Hehee. =)
