Oil Pan - Mental Addiction Motorsports

with all the stuff MAM is making i cant keep track of it all --- lol
cant wait to see it all on the site sometime --- thanks for supporting the Protege world :)

If this pan is made from aluminum, how well will it resist to scraping. On lowered cars, this could be a big problem.

Why? have you scraped yours?
If anything the first thing that gets scraped is the crossmember right in front of the oilpan.

It will depend on the depth of the sump, it can't be much of a "deep sump" pan and fit above the crossmember. I personally would prefer a steel pan, for that reason and resistance to stripping drain plugs/pan threads.

I have scraped it when backing up out of my driveway when there was a snowbank behind me. It hits the oilpan first and not the crossmember. Its not dinged or anything, but it IS scuffed up.

To me, it just doesnt seem like a very strong material to make such an important part.

From what I understand is they don't plan on making it hang any lower than stock. It will be a different design with trap doors to keep the oil at the pickup tube (which coincidentally they are redesigning too). If you banged your stock oil pan then I am afraid you will bang any aftermarket oil pan unless you make some sort of skid plate for it.

chances are they are using aluminum for a few reasons
lighter weight
and
better heat transfer
come on MAM...I need this

Yeah, just get a skid/kick plate made up if you're concerned about scraping (you shouldn't be so low anyway :D j/k).

They've been used/made on the domestic, off-road, and lowrider scenes for decades....

Something simple like: http://www.stu-offroad.com/misc/oilskid.htm (hump)

Hell, they even make one for the Civic!! (scratch) ...shocking? ...no (boom02)

http://www.rallyarmor.com/skid_plates/skidplates.html

Maybe make it a "combo" package with the new oild pan.....simple steel plate doesn't cost THAT much....

Will you include an oil pan gasket or do you suggest sealing it with the silicon?

Will the tap be on the front side of the pan? And how big will the hole be?

Thanks...

I would guess (remember, TOTAL guess) that the tapped hole will be in the front, and be of a -10 straight thread o-ring with a provided fitting, OR have a -10 male JIC fitting welded in with a cap supplied.

the recomended size for turbo oil return lines., and it would also make the most sense

any idea of release date yet? Also I'd like to re-ask a question from below, gasket or silicone to seal it on? I cant wait to see it all done and for sale!

As it stands right now you will use silicone. However we are trying to source an O-ring.If we are successful, the pan will be O-ringed.
Release date is stillin the air.We are waiting on the machine shop to finish up the flanges. If all goes well(they finish the flanges on time) the testbed pans will be finished by the end of the month.

RIGHT ON! It makes no sense to have such a small oil capacity, VW 2 liters are 4 quart and Subaru 2.5liter motors are 4.75....dont EVEN get me started on that lame ass oil pickup they (hump) us with
Why dont you guys have an protege stuff on your website? Its all mustang stuff...
