Oil on garage floor

Just got my car back yesterday. Took 8 days. They needed an extra part that had to be ordered in, so they had me keep the rental until it came in.

Just went through this

Yep, I understand all the frustration. Oil leakage on garage floor, waited 2 weeks for new seals, then I was informed that due to scoring a new transfer case was recommended ($5500 cost). Covered by warranty but I was just as concerned as everyone else as once they got into it I was informed I now needed a new catalytic converter (something fused together during R&R). Absolutely unbelievable and you wonder why Consumer Reports dinged Mazda for reliability. Ordering parts is a major issue if you need ANYTHING at all, it's always a wait. My faith in this vehicle is totally destroyed and now I get a disgusting smell due to (at least I'm told) the break in of the new cat converter. I would stay away from this vehicle, only about 7 months till I turn it in and get a Rogue.

Just noticed even after the seals and transfer case were replaced. I'm still getting a slight oil leak on my garage floor. Car goes back to the dealer again on Monday.

Brought the car in today. Got another loaner for a day or so. I guess there is another seal somewhere inside that is leaking. Dealer said that Mazda is low on them, so they don't carry them in-stock. Is overnighting it and going to put it in tomorrow.

Well, mine has 26000 miles on it and guess what? I noticed oil spots in the garage and the burnt smell you guys are talking about. In addition I had a flat and the repair guy said that my front tires are shot. They did not wear evenly...

Here is my repair list for the shop on Monday:

  • In summer during long drives, water vapor/steam comes out of the air vents. Air conditioner stops cooling.
  • Check engine light comes on at times
  • Leaks clear oily fluid. Transfer case? Strong burning smell when driving.
  • Any way to improve the turbo lag/hesitation?
  • Car squeaks when braking, more so in the winter
  • Received recall notification
  • Have pressure problems with front tires. Was advised they are misaligned.

Get the recall done, this should fix a CEL problem, see what caused previous CEL's, have the front end aligned and replace the tires(do NOT go with the OEM tires, go with a new brand entirely), there is a TSB for the A/C problem, you might need new brakes.

Whoa down there. OBVIOUSLY something was wrong with the alignment (pothole, curb, etc) that you needed one, and I'm sure it didn't help the tires.

My Bridgestone OEM tires are just fine. They are wearing evenly and tread measurements suggest they will be good for about 28,000 miles to the tread wear indicators. pretty good for the shell roads I often drive on. I rotate tires and check my tire pressure as recomended. If I found abnormal wear I would get it corrected then and not wait until they were worn out.

Tires Suck

Yep, I agree, the OEM tires suck. Horrible on ice/snow and already showing wear at 17,000 mi. (I noticed several thousand of miles earlier). Face it, this car is BAD news, hope everyone leased it, at least we can give it back to the dealer. If you purchased, buyer beware, I would definitely start looking around before the warranty period expires.

LOL, Unless Mazda made the tires, this has no reflection on the car itself, yes the alignment may have been off, but most people don't check this and they are to blame for abnormal inner tire wear due to off front end alignment. The tires are just terrible, and can be replaced, you can't put a poor tire from a tire manufatuer on the CX-7.

On a 4000LBS SUV you don't and shouldn't expect 90,000 miles out a a set of tires.

Early builds had problems, so you got zapped.

Be happy in the Rouge, the fact that you're even getting one after having the CX-7 says you need a CR-V.

Also, the reason why CR took the CX-7 off the recommendation list is because of the gas cap problem, which is so minor and stupid. Read on the CX-7's report card, it says "poor" for the fuel system, average or above for everything else.

+1 For CX7=Love. No problems here with the car or tires. Some should have bought a soccer mom vehicle IMO.

My CX-7 has 13,500 miles on it. I just put snows on my car. The back tires were worse then the fronts. I'm assuming maybe the dealer rotated the tires at some point. I can't imagine the backs having more wear normally. The wear was a lot more then I've seen on other cars.

I've attached pics of the tires. Bad tire is the backs (possibly fronts that were rotated?).

Not sure how much longer these will be good for. I have snows, so I don't plan on putting these back on until April.

At one time, yes, I was in love with this car as well. But, when you have had the front differential replaced, the catalytic converter replaced, gas cap replaced, at least one recall, and, tires that show abnormal wear despite having them rotated at Mazda's recommended service levels, well, it's actually the worst reliability I've ever encountered with a new vehicle. And, Mazda's dealers and service personnel leave much to be desired. I still love the look of the car, the way it drives, etc. but what a headache. And, all of these problems were experienced with less than 17K miles. Perhaps some of you will be lucky enough not to experience what I have but it appears others have run into the same problems. Just because this is a sexy jazzed up sporty crossover, beneath the attractive exterior lies some very serious problems. Not exactly what I expected from my first Mazda purchase.

WOW; sorry to hear of your problems. Sounds like you got the first of the first build in 2006. I would be sick about that. Maybe Mazda will offer some sort of compensation or exchange or ?

Mongrul: The pictures of your tires are difficult to read. They look like they are a long ways from the wear bars. Since tires gennerally wear fast for the first part of the tread I think you have lot more miles in them. Did I read the pictures wrong? Ed

Erkel: I guess I was looking more at the wear down the middle of the tire. The 2 of the tires look like they have untreaded slick bars down the middle. The other 2 actually have grooves in these bars.

They probably are fine for summer use as is, but traction would be pretty crappy.

More wear in the middle than on the edges could mean too high a tire pressure.
