Oil low again..

Hey all,
I have about 9k miles on my car now and its on its 3rd oil change.I switched to mobil1 at about 6k and it is still in there.I have about 2800 miles on it since I changed it last.I checked it today and it was about 1qt low from the full mark,This dont seem normal. It isnt leaking any oil so I assume its burning it or just blowing it out the exhaust.I do blow some smoke out the exhaust but I thought that was normal from what Ive read,This is my first turbo.
Should I worry?

Possibly it just wasn't filled correctly at your 6k synthetic swap, or...

...if you were running the engine, stopped it and then checked it right away, you are supposed to add a quart to the reading for "hang up"; Oil still sitting in the valve train and other components, etc.

Warm up your engine, and let it sit for a bit. If it's still reading low, add a quart and watch it over the next 3k. If it drops another quart, get your dealer to look at it. Its nothing to worry about right now, burning oil doesn't hurt anything (other then money spent on lost oil).

I checked the oil before I started it in the morning. When I changed the oil to mobil1 it was just a hair past the full mark.If its going thru this much oil its going to start building up in the intake and exhaust ports fast Im thinking.

overfilling your oil messed up ur cat i know that from the audi.... not good to burn oil with a turbo car a quart low is a lot ya can put a dye in and look with a black light to see if its leakin anywhere

It was only over filled by a few mills (about 3oz),Im sure it could not of hurt anything.I dont see any drops of oil on my garage floor. Some people are talking about a bad turbo seal,Could that have anything to do with this?Im thinking that could be the problem.

do ya see oil in you intake pipe ? i would just take it to a dealer and say it used a quart and they should diagnose it if its under warrenty

dont worry about it. some cars just go through oil. hell i know the 350z do for sure.

I can't say what's 'normal' or not, but my own MS definately doesn't go thru that much oil... it seems to barely use any at all.

i switched to mobil 1 at about 1500 miles. I'm now at 4000 miles and the oil level has not dropped AT ALL as far as I can tell.

you might want to ask the dealer though they will probably say that was normal

I drive the car a bit harder then normal I guess.I didnt check the intake for oil yet but I will.I have to take the car in for the motor mount recall when the parts come in so I will let the dealer know what is going on.This cant be normal.

Well, some cars like state above somewhere, just use up oil, but if your getting the bluish smoke from the exhaust that might be the turbo seal issue that have been found in alot of MS6's. Theres a couple threads on it where you can see how to check for it.

The dealer just called me and said they talked to Mazda and using that much oil is normal...Lol.So loosing almost a full quart of oil in under 3k miles is normal incase some of you guys are wondering....Mazda is really starting to get on my bad side.I dont understand how this car could use more oil then my RX8 and my RX8 is suppose to burn oil.I asked the guy if it was normal then why dont all of the MS3 do it,Of course he dont know why.Im just going to go pick it up since its been there for 8 days waiting on the engine mount recall and for them to check out this oil problem.

my sisters g35 uses oil like crazy worse than that. my car uses no oil at all and i drive it hard all the time. alot of cars just use oil for one reason or another propbably not a big deal

the motor is meant to burn a little bit of oil (close to a quart between regular oil changes), and using a synthetic is likely to increase that amount of oil used. 2cents

edit: also its likely that your motor isn't fully broken in either ;)

What do you mean its meant to burn oil??Where did you get this info?My car has almost 10k miles on it so it should be broken in.
