oil Filter *sigh

On the back of the block, it's kinda up high. It took me a while the very first time I ever changed the oil on my P5, but that was way back when it was new and I was 12 years old.

Under the car is prob the best way I just stuck my hand up there and turned the filter off.

Yup. Under the car on the back of the block. You should be able to torque it off by hand. It's a bit rough, but not impossible. Thats why I always get grippy filters. ;)

oh and just crack it a little and let the oil drain out. It'll run all over everything below it so have a can of brake cleaner handy for the final clean. I cracked the filter first and let it drain then opened the drain plug.

I always do it the other way round. I let it drain then I unscrew the filter. But I break the filter loose slightly. Might drip ,so yes, have cleaner ready.

And when I put the new filter on I pour a little bit of new oil in. Then screw it on.

I just reread what you said and it was pretty much the same, sethro. lol I'm not awake yet.

I have always opened the drain plug on the oil pan before taking the filter off, on every car I have ever done an oil change on. I don't understand the advantage of getting oil everywhere?

i find it easier to get to from over the engine. reach under the intake manifold and you can get to it...no need to climb under.

Funny thing is, everytime I take my oil filter off, it never drips or lets out extra oil? I always let the pan drain for 10min or so cause I'm doing something else. lol.

I just got done changing my oil. Got one lil drippy off the filter (post draining) when I unscrewed it and that was it.

lol the filter was so much easier on this than it was on my h22. i swear the oil filter is like 6 inches away from the IM

that makes sense. My theory: once drained the oil gally's can drain back through the oil pump and out the pickup tube.

I'll start doing it this way from now on.
