Oil Filter part number

Hi all,

I went to a local mazda dealer and ask for a oil filter for Mazda 3 2.3L. That person gave me one filter and one O ring(large). I think I am supposed to get 2 instead of one. Does it matter if I dont' change the small one this time? (my car is just 3000 miles)

Since I think the guy who works there doesn't really know what he is giving me, do you guys know the part number for the oil filter for mazda 3 2.3L?

Here is what I got from the dealer:
Oil Filter: L321-14-302
O ring (large): LF01-14-312

I read from one web site said the Mazda 3 2.3L should use L32114309 instead of L321-14-302. Anyone know if I should exchange it?

Thank you so much,
NewBie

The Small O-Ring part number is 9956-41-400
In all honesty, you don't need to change this O-ring if you don't touch it.

This is the O-ring that seals the drain plug of the filter assembly. (Not the main drain plug)

The Oil filter housing itself has a drain plug, which allows you to drain the oil from the filter neetly before removing the whole oil filter.

My recomendations to you are to return the parts you've bought, then purchase
Spin-On Filter Mount [Part # L301-14-310]*
Spin-On Filter Gasket [Part # LF01-14-342]*
Spin-On Filter [Part # LF10-14-302]*

Convert your stupid cartridge type to a quick and easy spin on filter type.
then you can buy good name brand filters for less money, and will never have to buy those gaskets..

Shown in this how-to is a mazda 6, but it's the exact same parts and procedure for a 3 with a 2.3L engine
