Hey...so I am doing my first oil change and I obviously can't find any aftermarket oil filters (e.g. K&N). I know they have one for the 3L mazda6. Anyway...what oil filter should i get, oem or some other brand if they have one, and then what oil is recommended? I read a couple posts about oil, but i was wondering if somebody had a better idea as to what oil was best. thanx :)

Go OEM

Get the OEM filter, they have more pleats than Purolators.....

Looks like Fram & Purolator make a filters for the Speed6 (if it's the same as the Mazda3 2.3L). The Fram P/N is CH9641 and the Purolator is L15505, I just hope their availability is good. As you can see in the following post, it looks like it's a bit of a pain to replace, at least the first time, anyway.
Edit:
This is also the same filter as the Ford Escape Hybrid (Tribute too) and Purolator makes a Pure-One version, PL15505 which equates to Motorcraft FL-2017B (Purolator supplies Ford and the OEM filter is the Pure-One)

2.3L Oil Change Info

Use stock oil filter (cartridge type) and either Mobil 1 synthetic or Redline synthetic. Should really use synthetic for turbo engines b/c of high heat.
