Oil change indicator?

:
2010 CX-9 FWD Touring
I just want to confirm that the 2010 CX-9 does NOT have an indictor telling me what the oil life is or when to change it. I just figured all newer cars had such an indicator - my 2006 accord does, so does my sister's 2007 cobalt.

Manual says change it every 7500 miles, no mention of an indicator.

There isn't. The trip A/B doesn't go past 999 miles, so you can't use that as a reminder either. The suggestion from most on this board, which I use now and is a very good one, is just change it every 5K. Easy to remember. I think stretching to 7.5K is a little much in any conditions (at least when using standard non-synthetic oil).

Many oil change indicators are quite sophisticated. The oil life monitor in my C6 Corvette and Cadillac STS are not based on mileage. There is an algorithm in the ECM that measures engine revolutions and engine temperature, to include cold starts. The mileage at which an oil change will be indicated can vary considerably based on driving conditions. I change the oil once a year in each, and have never gotten below 40% oil life on the DIC.

I owned two BMW 740i sedans, and the oil monitor would average about 15K miles before I was ready for an oil change.

A bit off topic, but my CX-9 comes off lease this fall, so spent the day looking for a replacement. Checked out and test drove BMW xDrive35i, Acura MDX/ZDX, Infinity FX50, Cadillac SRX 2.8T, Audi Q5, and Lincoln MKT.

On the way home I passed a Land Rover dealer, and decided to stop in and check out the new LR4. In my price range, but not really the type of SUV I'm looking for.

During the vehicle demo the salesman told me an oil change is $400, and it can only be done by the dealer. (crazy)

Land Rover, the most unreliable vehicle sold in USA for as long as I recall every year.
