I'm in but all depends on the week and if it conflicts with the Country Music Marathon in Nashville April 30th. I led a group in October to deals gap and the fall colors were awesome. We camped at Cheoah Point Campground which is a very nice place to camp and I would recommend those that want to camp stay there, I plan to if I go in April. I was there this past June and October and wasted a set of tires between the two trips. We made day runs and night runs. The night runs were way faster, being able to see lights around the curve meant you could drive more aggressive and lift if you see lights.
I have found in my trips that the traffic is way less during the week than on the weekends.
We are planning another Fall Dragon Camp next October, 3rd weekend, plan for it. You want to be there, trust me.
My favorite road in the area is Hellbender 28 between Deals Gap and Fontana Dam. The Cherohala Skyway is next followed by the Dragon which is just too damn tight to enjoy.
We made a big loop using the Dragon, scenic hwy 360 and Cherohala Skyway, takes several hours with a few stops. We spent time at Fontana Dam, so plan on seeing that.
I would suggest going for three days Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and drive back Sunday morning.
Count me in.
Scott.
