Ohio and front license plates

same here. renewed both the speed (ms6 ftw) and the cx7 (icy trbo) for a grand total of $210 keeping the existing red/white/blue plates, not the stupid new plates.

I was not happy when I went to get plates since I had just put the car in my name, and they told me that all new plates from now on are the hideous farm scene design. Girl behind the counter said most people request the red white and blue style, and are pissed when they can't get them.

I've never had a front plate on any of my cars, and never been pulled over for it. Even got a speeding ticket without one and the cop didn't say a word. It was in Waite Hill (surprising that of all places, they would give me a break), and I was going 62 in a 25 and he let me off writing it for 47 if I would plead no contest. I was 16 at the time, only had my license for 5 weeks, and quickly learned that I was driving like a total idiot.

But Waite Hill sure does have some fun roads.

i assume not on 90? thats typically willoughby hills cops on 90....those bastards go flying by me at easily 90+ to pull someone over about once a week on my way into work. makes me not speed between 306 and 91 though...

edit: just saw the 62 in a 25 part, so nevermind.

I absolutely hate those new license plates. Who decided on that hideous thing?

I hate them enough that if I were in the market for a new car I would probably wait until Ohio changed the license plate design before I bought one :D

Apparently the governor's wife designed the new plates. That's what they told me at the bmv. They redesign the plates for every new governor or something. by using a ton of different colors on the plate design she made them the most expensive plates they ever made. Some people weren't too happy with that.

I didn't get the brand new style when I got plates after I bought the MS3...I chose the old style red, white, and blue. I think it matches my red car better HAHA

Good choice. The only thing that the farm plates looks okay on is a truck. I mean they're right at home in Hartville, but for a car, bleck. I snagged a set of the old classy ones when I got them for the Miata, and I'm going to trade them onto anything I get after that, too.

The ones for trucks and trailers don't even have the farm scene on it... Which makes it even worse.

Oh, yeah, you're right! I think it just happened to be that way with my buddy's Blazer because he transferred the plates from his CSVT onto it.

amen to that.

i was seriously considering dumping the personalized plates when the bill came this year...but not at the expense of the new design...

I'll wait until the new design to dump them ;)

blazer != truck.

he means truck as in commercial classification.

all the more reason for ohio to pass the no front plate law to cut on production costs for the plates. ohio probably wont change the price tho just to suck money outta our wallets lol

Oh. I think I've seen non-commercial trucks with truck plates. I'm talking about the ones that say "truck" instead of the county at the bottom. Maybe I just never noticed that they were only on commercial vehicles or something.

Those are the ones I'm thinking of as well. I live on a farm so the plates are definitely commercial on the truck I have. I don't know if it has to be commercial to say "Truck" on the bottom or not though.

there used to be "non-com truck" plates as well, but i thought they did away with those...i believe commercial means that it MUST have truck plates, but maybe you can get truck plates with a non-commercial truck. i dunno.

I think I skipped over the current conversation, but just wanted to add my two cents about being pulled over for front license plate, or lack thereof.

I moved to Columbus in 2003, and was ticketed for no front license plate up by Polaris. A couple years went by, and I got a warning on 315. A couple years after that, I was issued a work order (or something like that) in Westerville, which gave me 5 days to mount the plate and go show it to them. By that point, I was annoyed and just left it on.

Okay, continue as you were :)

cops are making the argument that bc they are reflective they help, does anyone drive around at night with their lights off for the fun of it? lol

That's where they're trained to point their radar guns. They're highly reflective and I honestly think this is the only reason for front plates..

Well they're gonna have to find another place to point it bc I'm ridin dirty no front plate :) lol

Exaccccttly lol buut..."speed limit 55 ima do 50, but if they fck with me they gonna have to come get me" ;)
