hi im new around and infact my mom just past her 2002 protege to me and i dont know anything about tires and wheel size. i want the 19 inch enkeis shown on the wingswest site of the protege but i dont know anything about wheel rub or offsets and etc. so maybe someone can inform me on some of the factors i need to look for before i buy my rims and tires. thanks:D

no problem. read the sticky thread at the top the of the section you just posted in entitled rishies fitament guide. before you look though, note those are custom jobs on the rims on the WW car, and most 19 inch wheels will not fit without some serious modding to your car or wheels. unless you get like a 10 series tire.

If you can find a 19X7.5" wide rim with a +48 or higher offset, and run a 215/35/19s, you could even lower your car 2 inches and still be fine. All in the offsets. I am running 18s and I have had correct fitting 19s on my car and no rub..........but they were about $4000 for the rims only. Local car shop had a custom set sitting in their shop and I tried one. Don't even rememeber who made them it was so long ago. Plus, if you put a 215/35/18 beside a same size 19 they are about the same diameter. Maybe off by a .25 inch or so. I wish now I would have gone with 19s, but the price range jumps so much. Good luck in your searching.(2thumbs)

oh i have been searching for a while and i did find the exact same stuff on wingswest, the enkeis are 19"x7" and pirellis are p7000 super sports 215/35/19, but i still dont get what offsets are, is it the width of the tire? and does wheel rub occur when, say for example, when u hit a pot hole and the suspension absorbs the force and the tire grinds against the right ABOVE the tire? or is it that the thickness of the wheel grinds against the inside (inner side) of the tires? lol im confusing myself, well ur definition?

A 215/35/19 is bigger than a 215/30/19. The 35 means it has a "taller" sidewall. Regarding your other question about tire rub -- it can happen in either fashion that you mentioned in your previous post (tire can hit the top of the fender or the side of the fender). If the tire is hitting the side it is probably more due to the offset of the rim rather than tire size. The offset just is the measure of the distance from where the rim's "mounting plate" (where the lug holes are) is to the center of the rim. A positive offset will result in your tires being "hidden" inside the wheel well closer to the engine and a negative offset will make them stick outside of the fender. Most front drive cars have high positive offsets whereas some rear drive cars and trucks have negative offsets (or "deep-dish" rims).

roger that girth, remember that the second number is a percentage of the width...so a 215/35 tire is going to be bigger than a 205/35 tire. the 35 is not a set number. i dont know if you knew this already or not, a lot of people dont.

Gotcha Matt.;) I knew that but didn't mention it since the 2 tire sizes he mentioned were of the same width.:)

On a side, unrelated note I'm making a rare couple of posts in here because I was this close to starting a flamewar thread stating I am finished posting in the MSP section and possibly this site for good. The MSP section is COMPLETELY unmoderated and it pisses me off - makes it completely worthless for me. And without the MSP section the rest of the site doesn't have much draw for me. I mean we had a couple of "what mini van should my parents buy" type threads in there today :wtf: and yet there they sat, not moved or deleted. I'm wondering if Antoine has instructed the mods to just be that over-protective for the newbs in there or if the mods are just that lazy? I don't know. In any case I'm cooled off now - no flamewar thread needed (yet).

Sorry for the threadjack Bluewolf...needed to get it out somewhere.
