Official Thread: 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon

I should have clarified, Mazdaspeed parts (from what I was told). I will edit the title.

Is it just me, or does the car seem bigger overall?

+1, looks "chubbier". Here is what I found though:

2009 Mazda3 hatchback
Wheelbase (in.): 103.9
Length (in.): 176.8
Width (in.): 69.1
Height (in.): 57.7

2010 Mazda3 Hatchback
Wheelbase, in. 103.9
Overall Length, in. 177.4 (180.9 for the sedan)
Overall Width, in. 69.1
Overall Height, in. 57.9

Not by much huh...maybe it's just the body paneling and the smile of Mazda happiness on the front. Looks like the smiley face on a torpedo.

the new Mazda3 isn't "all-new" for 2010. It's a modified version of the same C1 chassis (according to Automobile Mag). Wheelbase and suspension mounting points are all the same. So it seems it's just they redid the interior and skins of the current Mazda3, making it heavier.

I've seen the sedan's weight and yes. it is heavier. Yet, the better drag coefficient, 2.5L engine, more HP and 6MT are a good thing :)

Curb weight (lb):
2009 Mazda3s 5MT - 2906
2010 Mazda3s 6MT - 3025

What is wrong with using a modified chassis? Most manufacturers do that.

^^ Good memories and LOL to the exhaust tips

The comments:

To be honest, this years TAS was the worst I ever saw, not because of the organization (it was almost perfect), but the heavy atmosphere due mainly to recent financial results announced in the car industry.

I admit two major names succeeded in surprising us at the last minute. One of them was Mugen and their LORD so gorgeous Honda NSX RR concept... If (unfortunately) it's purely a show-car without an engine, the NSX RR concept is Mugen’s way of celebrating the NSX's upcoming birthday by giving her an incredible bodykit.

Next to the NSX RR we discovered another in the flesh the Honda Accord Mugen 24sc, its super charged 2.4L DOHC i-VTEC engine, and 6 speed manual gear box... Already quite attractive, the Accord Mugen S24sc with its improved engine and tuned aerodynamics could be a serious challenger to certain Germanic productions with its way more affordable price.

Finally, like last year, we had the pleasure of meeting the Civic RR's big brother, the RR Advanced with its powered-up engine and full carbon body.

Yes, Mugen was again this year quite the booth to visit, and Lord we just love the NSX RR.

Good job guys!

The profile decals, most of the brands have at least one car with them it seems, it might be fashion in Japan, ewww here though...

Re-Amemiya Genki 7... the Ultimate RX-7?

Honda has Mugen, Mazda has Re-Amemiay! Isami Amemiya is a legendary figure and name for all Mazda fans and this gentleman driver has modified hundreds of cars made for street performance and the Super GT.

To celebrate his extensive experience, Isami Amemiya built an amazing show car for the TAS, the Genki7... Without any specific target in mind, Amemiya-san built what is for him the sleekest RX-7 ever made with stunning aerodynamics lines just made to bite records. The Genki7 has a specially tuned engine from Greedy to leave everyone behind!

Wald GT-R and IS-F

The Japanese car dresser Wald based in Osaka, came all the way to Tokyo to give to all tuner enthusiasts a taste of their latest kit for the GT-R and the Lexus IS-F.

If Wald main job is to give to a certain number of cars a more aggressive look, do not expect however to get any boost in performance, the Wald team is solely working in restyling in and out cars...

Anyway whether or not you like these kits, you have to admit that Wald has done quite an remarkable job here on this GT-R and IS-F.

NATS Gt-k

Arrrghhhh!!! (shocked)

Since we'll be focusing almost exclusively on the products that make you go faster and stick harder, we'll get the weird out of the way right now. Behold the NATS GT-K. Captured by our friends at LeBlogAuto, the GT-K is based on the Suzuki Cappuccino, and aside from the GT-R duds, the Kei car features a modified version of the 657cc DOHC inline-three equipped with a larger turbo and intercooler, along with a coilover suspension, upgraded brakes and a set of gloriously hideous 18-inch chrome wheels. We were able to keep our dinner down long enough to look at NATS' 911-inspired Cappuccino, at which point we grabbed the nearest trash can and heaved away. Ambition: 1. Execution: 0. More to follow. Stay tuned...
