This hobby will nickel and dime you to death.

agreed, i can already see a pattern in my bank statement from all the trips i've been doing to teh hobby shop

5 bucks here, ten bucks there, 3 bucks for clamps, it does add up :(

RC cars are very expensive to own and maintain. Especially nitro cars because the exhaust gets all over the car and you really have to clean it up everytime you run the car. Although...airplanes and helicopters are about 2 times worse.

all in all, ive completely lost track on how much ive spent on my r/cs...but probably a rough estimate would be around $2k-3k...and thats being very modest...it could be even more if i actually sat down and calculated the price for every single part...

it's a good thing i don't plan on racing mine anytime soon

i have already broken 2 things on it just using it on my neighborhood

Nitro- it will cost more because of the purchase the the gallon of nitro fuel and the more maintenance that goes into it.I mean yeah, you go really fast plus more run time but that comes at a price.

Electric-not as much maintenance.Problems are usually easily discovered and fixed. It's all about rechanging,so even if you just have one battery,it will last you for awhile(just gotta maintain it).Altho, you don't the speed and run time of nitro.

As far as mods, just like full scale cars,it's all on the person to decide if they want to spend a lot on the car.For example, you could get a TC4 and all the equipment needed and be done w/ it.You don't have to race it.

u can get the speed of nitro with electric if u get a brushless setup...there was actually a guy who had a 12 cell setup with a low turned conventional motor on a tc3...got like 100+ iirc...lemme find that link...

edit: he actually hit 96.4mph with a 12 turn motor and 14 cell setup...for all those unfamiliar with the r/c jargon, basically, the fewer the turns on a motor, the more punch it has...so this was some crazy speed he was getting out of the tc3...

Yeah,so basically, the only thing truly expensive is the kit+required equipment in the beginning. The mods after that is usually reasonablly priced. So if want to hit 96 mph,ya mod like crazy, lol!

nah...different guys...these guys were the owners/employees of team associated...

damn you guys got me thinking of the good ol days when my friends and i used to mess around with our cars

i decided i want to fix my old school tamiya fox, where can i buy parts for it these days other than ebay?

i noticed tamiya is bringing back some older cars, but the fox doesnt seem to be one of them

i have two new engines for it, but as i recall the wheel bearings were shot from sitting idle so long and one of the front strut things is busted

i would love to give this thing a new life, i still have the fast charger and battery, which probably neds to be replaced as well

Nice! You gotta bring in to one of the meets!

Back in the day I got this R/C mag and of course it had articles on all types of R/C racing including drag racing...What I've always wondered was about land speed racing..? Is there an R/C equivalent to the land speed trials at the salt flats?

Also...Do they sell drag race kits?

Thanks for the info (thumb)

micro rs4 with a 380 conversion and 6 cells, too much to handle. 1/18th scale going 45mph was just too much power for the chassis lol but it was fun

this car was probably from 2 years ago. . its in a box now somewhere. . .as i ran out of money to play with it.

i also have an ofna ulta-mbx 1/8th buggy and i used to race 1/10th touring with a trinity t-spec. .that little crappy 100 dolla car is awesome when setup right

Not really radio controlled, but are purpose built speed machines:http://http://www.rccaraction.com/online_ex/tethercars.asp
