Isn't it the case that callaway actually planned on making the MSP better (forged internals stock, GT28RS, More aggressive front fascia) before Mazda pulled the plug to keep costs down? I may be totally off here.

huh, wasn't aware of that. i heard that their prototype was boosting 9psi and mazda turned it down to 6 but forged internals? wow. anyways, it's interesting to see the kind of cars mazdaspeed has developed since the msp. i love my msp but somehow, i kinda feel like we got the short end of the stick. oh well, thread jack over :) ms3 looks like it's gonna be a sweet car!

but the MSP was only intended as a stopgap, one-year offering at the end of the protege's life cycle. i woudn't be surprised if keeping costs down was the #1 concern...plus, parent Ford's SVT focus was only making 170, so it wouldn't suprise me if the MSP was mandated to stay at or below that level.

Same motor (Mazdas 2.3-litre DISI Turbo) but detuned...

280lbs of TORQUE!?! Is that right?!?

and available at like 2500 RPM's....bye-bye turbo lag (hi)

184 kW/250 PS at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 380 Nm at 3,000 rpm.
Hey, could somebody please explain this terminology to me and exactly what the formulas are to convert this to horsepower and ft/lb of torque? Thanks.

Hey, one pound foot of torque is equal to 1.3558 Newton Meters (note that it is pound feet of torque, not the commonly mis-quoted foot per pound which is not a unit of anything ;) !!!).

One PS (pferdestarke) = 0.9863201 HP

So 380 Nm = 280.27 lbfft
and 250 PS = 246.58 HP

Hope that helps!!

Am I the only one that thinks the US is gonna get the ass end of the stick? I hope the specs stay the same...

280 lbs of tq going throught the front wheels sounds scary. (boom07)

at least there's an LSD

but yeah, whoever gets these cars will need to learn how to drive a car with that much power to the front wheels. i foresee alot of newbs buying this car, thinking that they can drive it properly!

I'm still being told its going to be an automatic only.

If its anything like the new Vw tranny I would be okay with it.

6spd auto. Hoping its like the new direct shift auto vw just came out with.

If it's automatic, is this like the only automatic turbo car ever or recently?

I don't think I've seen a production car thats turboed and auto.
