Official Mazdaspeed 3/MPS Thread

Right, that's all I was saying. New to me design wise is a radical difference from current. Maybe it's my designing profession that makes me see it that way. ;)

Like I said, it's going to be bad ass!
The exterior, interior, and engine isn't enough for you?

nope. It's not in my eyes. The exterior is not a full body rework, nor the interior. It's just my opinion.

so you mean they would have to update the chassis then? that might be a while before that happens lol

and with out going with a ALL new car we may see a mazdaspeed version sooner than the last two or three years of a production run like previous mazdaspeed models

You might get what you wish for.

Just recently a MS3 prototype was spotted in The 'Ring. It would seem that the success of the Mazda3 and MS3 may have empowered Mazda to shift their paradigm when it comes to Mazdaspeed brand vehicles, at least for the 3.

Let's review the timeline so far.
2008 May - October - Tons of sightings of 2g Mazda3 testing
2008 November - Official 2g Mazda3 launch at LA
2009 Summer - 2g Mazda3 to be sold as 2010 models.

That's about a year elapsed from testing to launch to sale.

With that in mind: MS3 testing this late in the year potentially means testing going into late 2008, early 2009. Which translates into a 2009 launch during the auto show season, which in turn would probably mean being sold as early as 2010 as a 2011 model (assuming all goes well). Note that this timing doesn't launch at the same time as the 2g launch, which makes sense because Mazda likes to spread different trim offerings across the product life time.

Mazda3 MPS/Mazdaspeed3 rumored to appear at Geneva Motor Show

From Autoblog.com:

We've already seen the 2010 Mazda3 in sedan and five-door form, but as much as we love the standard model in all of its guises, there's one variant we're anxiously awaiting. The 2010 Mazdaspeed3 (or MPS to our friends abroad) is on the way, and according to our sources, it's coming to the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The 2010 MS3 has some huge shoes to fill after we fell in love with the current model during its time in the Autoblog Garage. We've gotten confirmation that the prototype spied at the Nurburging in October is, in fact, the new Mazdaspeed variant, although it's still unclear what turbocharged engine is being fed by that massive hoodscoop.

Early reports indicated that Mazda's boffins were hard at work retuning the current turbo'd 2.3-liter four-cylinder for duty in the 2010 model, but why invest the time in an upgrade when there's a perfectly suitable – and hugely powerful – 2.5-liter five-cylinder available from the Ford parts bin? The turbocharged Duratec fitted to the 2010 Focus RS seems like the obvious choice, with 295 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque being channeled to the front wheels through a six-speed manual and limited slip differential. We can hope – no, pray – this is Mazda's plan. And we're going to find out in just over two months time.

So let's see, I'll discard the 2010 MS3 so to give them time to get rid of the bugs of the 1st production batch, and by 2011 I might no longer need rear-facing car seats.... hmmm, sounds like a good time to trade one of my people movers for something more decent (naughty)

Now, I just need money, LOL

Those things are huge, aren't they? I just turned my son around today for the first time. Amazing how much room that opens up. His infant seat actually took up more space than the convertible seat facing backward.

Yup, and wife does not want to turn them to face front-wise until the kids are like 15, LOL. The thing goes: the smaller the kids are, the more space and crap they'll need in the car

Mine's 13 months, but he's so tall his feet were getting jammed into the seatback, so I turned him around. Yeah, I can't wait until the day I can leave the house without having to pack a diaper bag, make sure we've got the big ass stroller, etc, etc...

BTW, that new 3 is gangsta as s***, huh?

Yeah, I've been sold to the current MS3 since I got my 2nd Mazda5, but hey, had priorities :(. I'll give it time to the new model to settle and then we'll see, it looks very promising...

Rumor has it that it's going to stay at the 2.3L displacement, which is odd. Why not the bump to 2.5?

good god I'm going to have nightmares about that car.

that car is horrifying.

I believe the whole 2.5 DISI/turbo engine is still on the R&D stage (I'm sure is not a bolt-on thing), I just say the current economy is to blame for the R&D slowdown...

Now, what about the diesel engine they say the Europeans may get for the MPS?

The Mazda3 MPS sport compact pushes Mazda design further and its exciting driving performance perfectly represents Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom spirit. Carrying forward the MZR 2.3 DISI Turbo engine, Mazda3 MPS builds on the popularity and recognition of the previous model. It evolves the driving experience to an entirely new level of quality and pleasure with its emotional design and exhilarating performance.

The all-new Mazda3 Program Manager, Yoshiyuki Maeda, says, “These two models add extra value to an all-new Mazda3 lineup that has already shown strong appeal. The new Mazda3 series takes a significant step ahead in both the realms of driving performance and environmental technology to lead the way toward a new generation of motoring.”
