?uestions related to this topic.

My cat is going out on me. I'm smelling that nasty rotten egg smell even without too much spirited driving. Is there an alternative to getting another cat for this? Is this what the "test pipe" that I see people mention takes the place of? Is there perhaps a bolt on hi-flow cat for the p5?

Doesnt ken sell high flow catted mid pipes? Is that what you are talkin about.

I honestly don't know. If it's a high flow pipe (for off road use) in place of the cat, then yes, that is exactly what I need. I want something that bolts in though.

Ken, from protegegarage?

The P5 has two cats...one is just south of the header (a big cylinder vertical in front of the block) and then the J-pipe, then the midpipe, which has the second cat. The first cat does have a tendency to go bad and that's probably the rotten egg smell, but if you add a Tsudo, OBX, etc, it replaces everything from the point at which the stock header exits the block to the beginning of the midpipe (which means you only have one cat remaining, the midpipe cat). You may still have the rotten egg smell, and if you have a sniffer emissions test you might not pass, and you definitely won't pass a visual inspection. It's a good mod, but it does have drawbacks.

There's a hi-flow cat from protegegarage but it replaces the midpipe cat. The only replacement for the first cat is to buy another stock one, and I have heard it's expensive.

Yeah, it's like 6-700 bucks. I live in east GA though, and thank god, no emissions currently. I am thinking it's the primary cat. In which case I'm ******. Unless I can just get some generic hi flow cat from ebay and get it welded on.

tsudo or obx header plus a corksport power series exhaust
and ur done, only spending around 500 bucks and u have no cats and alot more horsepower, plus it sounds sexy lol

Hey guys,
Are there any "Mazda Speed performance Protege 5 exhaust system" at all?? i found one on ebay but not sure if it's real. if yes, anyone is using it? and how's it?

There is, and it's just an axle back. It sounds nice. It's a little loud though. I loved it when I was just doing city driving. Once I started to do a lot of hour+ long highway trips in the car, it became a bit overbearing.

For those of you who were interested in what something like THIS would sound like:

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IRlYmIOITzs&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IRlYmIOITzs&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Good on a race car, not so good on something that sees a lot of street use ;) I love all the pops and burbles that thing makes. You always know exactly what the engine's doing :)

EDIT: Don't mind my instructor, or me yelling @ my slow car :p. COME ONE 105 WHP! (that number to be verified within the next month. Last count was 99 or so, and I've fixed / upgraded a few things since then. Feels quicker... butt dyno ftw! ;))

And while I'm being a thorough ***** of the P5 exhaust thread with the Miazda:
