Official Exhaust Thread

I could be wrong (and often am)..but i think headers/exhaust mainly affect the top end of the RPM range.

As for fitment, if its designed for your car, it should fit...but putting a clogged/baffled/quiet exhaust behind your free-flowing header sounds like a waste of money to me. just my .02

I hear ya.(hear ya)..I just dont want a loud car. I had a loud car about 4 years ago and it was cool at first, but on the long drives from Charlotte NC to Pittsburgh PA ( I make at least 2 trips a year) it will drive you crazy!

Is there something that will give me better low end?

not really exhaust wise... the wider you make the pipes. the more the powerband moves up.

a nice combination of sound is the obx header and racing beat cat back. has a nice tone, but doesnt drone very bad.

if you want recover some low end you best option is an underdrive pulley.

btw there are certain headers that up the low end due to design, but because of the lack of headers available for our car the options are pretty much all the same

ya, I think NCZ has it right...only cheap way to boost the bottom end is lightening the rotating stuff (wheels, pulleys, maybe oil/tranny fluid).

going back to the header ? about low/top end power. When i installed my header, i did not notice any/a significant drop in low end. I did however notice a difference in mid and mid-top end power. I could feel the difference in the way it pulled. with a stock exhaust system it gave it a nice sound, with a catback...it adds volume, lots of volume to your exhaust ahaha

Question...If I get a OBX header with stock exhaust will it fit? and will I lose low end. I have a sport auto and it has no power as it is right off of the start, good power in the mid range but nothing at first. I cant even get the wheels to chirp from a dead stop.(bang)

Yes the OBX header will bolt right up to the stock exhuast.

The header will definitely bolt up to the stock exhaust. While I'm not an N/A guru by any means I would venture to suspect that you would lose some low-end power with the installation of a header. I'm of course speaking under the impression that any larger/free-er flowing exhaust will cause you to lose low-end.

My car felt peppier right from teh get go when I installed my Thunder header. Plocbo effect maybe... who knows.

I think im going to get the OBX. Now i just have to talk the wife into it! I know im getting the underdrive pulley, and want all of the other pulleys as well but will most likly have to et them later.

Thanks for the help guys! THIS FORUM ROCKS(rockon)

does anyone know anyone with a Tanabe Medalion Touring Exhaust on their Protege 5?
im trying to see sum clips and pics b4 i get mine
or maybe a Greddy SP2?

i never heard anyone with a medallion on a p5, just because tanabe doesnt make one for our car... it would have to be welded wouldnt it?

there is an sp2 clip in this thread btw...

tanabe does make a axleback for our car....i think a member named FunkyBuddha had it on his p5
anyway...back to header...anyone had tusdo? judging from the pics on ebay, they look exactly the same...but cheaper
anyone has good or bad experience with tsudo?

are you sure it wasnt welded? eh. im sure it sounded great. the medallion series is supposed to be a really deep mellow sound

the headers are gonna look all pretty much the same... it just depends on whether you want to risk quality and customer service for a cheaper price

My HKS exhaust middle hanger broke already! Im been waiting because I know people been having that problem. Fixed it by welding it back and renforcing support areas. If anyone get this just be sure to check out the muffler like once a month to make sure there aint any cracks coming out and if so fix it soon. Best axle back in my opinion=)

now i just have to figure out which exhaust i want for my turbo p5. Greddy or magnaflow, cause im gonna have a highflow midpipe w/ hi-flow cat, so ive narrowed my choices between the magnaflow/greddy due to noice reasons. I wanna be stealthy fast, plus my neighbors hate my corksport, i love it...except for highways;)

I've got the Tsudo, as does DieHonda and a handful of other members...as far as I can tell it's pretty much the same as the OBX. Mine had good welds and nice thick flanges and it bolted right up (save wrestling the the EGR tube) I would recommend it, it gives a nice sound and some gains in the upper RPM range.

any big loss in the low end?
from what i have read, some people said there was a loss in low end but some said they didn't.
If I have the stock pipings with msp rb axleback, will i have loss in the low end?

I don't have any dyno numbers to verify, but I would say that I did lose a little on the low end, but definitely gained more in the midrange to top end. It's not a big loss and in downshifts and midrange WOT it feels like the car pulls harder, and the engine has a nice note (not loud, just more full). I plan on balancing the low end loss with a UDP (probably RR Racing) sometime soon because it's cheap and easy to install. Overall, I would say that the minimal loss down low is not enough of a drawback to avoid the header. If you're planning on modding more, you should definitely go for it.

most of the headers available for our car will move the powerband up the rpm range.

its not a big change where you wont go anywhere in first gear lol, its noticeable, but nothing that cant be easily balanced with a UDP and a lighter flywheel.
