Official 2011 Mazda5 Thread

So it might not get a 2.5L after all, unless, as usual, North America gets a different treatment as it has been for the current 2.3L setup.

It better get a good HP with that 2.0L :D

Mazda says it will debut a new range of 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission. The new engineset to debut in vehicles by 2011should get up to 32 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the highway. Thats 10 more miles per gallon for each rating than the current four-cylinder engine.

Mazda has also not said which of its vehicles will get the new four-cylinder engines, but speculation focuses on the MX-5 Miata or Mazda5.

Wow, that would be fantastic. 42MPG in the highway!! That would really set the Mazda5 apart.
I wonder if there is any sacrifice in performance with these new engines.

I will be hoping the Tdi engine makes it here next time. I have lots of hills where I live and the 5 is not all that happy climbing hills with the A/C on. The torque of the Tdi would be most welcome.

Hopefully Mazda will listen.

Canadian spec cars come with heated mirrors - they are nice!

Hear hear on the TDI. Check out any of the UK reviews and note that the 2.0 L high output TDI there is the hot setup - 44 mpg (36 mpg US), 265 lb-ft of torque, and a 6 speed! I've told my dealer to call me if Mazda decides to bring that engine here - I'd trade in an instant!

i love my tdi, its perfect blend of power and economy

Mine is a 2006 and it came with heated mirrors (maybe for the cold canadian climate...) As for the backup camera, after I installed my Pioneer AVIC D3, I added the camera for $30 - located inside the top part of the rear glass. Automatically switches to rear camera anytime I place it in reverse.

which back up camera did you get?

Not sure how a Mazda 2.0L can achieve 32/42 compare with current MZ3's 25/33. Even Civic's smaller 1.8L only get 29/36.

It will be a completely new engine, not the existing one, plus I guess the numbers are still generic values, it will obviously depend on what car they put it on

I vote for a MAZDASPEED5

Mazdaspeed5 MAZDASPEED5 MS5 - DUMP the Mazdaspeed3 in exchange for a MAZDASPEED5. I want one please!

The engine bay is big enough to add a turbo / intercooler, I wonder if GReddy will make an aftermarket kit? That would be perfect! I will be the first to volunteer my car as the guinea pig(cabpatch)

But a bad refresh step is the 6... went from double wishbone front to McPherson strut.... barf.

Didn't Mazda have plans to make all their engines direct injected? Maybe that's helping the boost in economy.

Idea

Is there a place to plug in a reverse camera on the stock navi unit?

Mine came with BOTH OEM back up and front camera, ...
so I assume there is a place to plug in... but again that is
on the PREMACY not 100% on the M5.

At worse, open up the kick pannels down there left and right
and under the radio area. See if on those 'cpu's boxes' if there
are any open sockets?.?

Wonder if they labeld the 'open ones' on the different "CPU's"?
Take a look and see if there is a label for what that plug does?

Good luck and post a picture if you do find it. (hump)

Peace!(rei)

Hi guys,

I know I'm bumping up an old thread, but would anybody have more news about the possibility of a remodelling of our Mz-5 for 2011? I heard some rumors, but nothing concrete... If you kow anything, I would appreciate!

Thanks.

BTW... It's too bad that the 5 does not have more competitors here in N-america... This might help in improving our 5.. But without competitors, why would Mazda bother?...

no, but they DO have competitors in the rest of the world, so if they keep the 5 fresh to compete in the world market, we'd get the benefit as well (since they really didn't make any major changes for the NA market anyway).

without competitors? who cares! the mx5/miata hasnt had a valid competitor since it was introduced, whta, 20 years ago? i like that the mazda5 has no real competitors in its calss, since it made the decision to get one that much easier. the dealer we bought it from, couldnt keep them on the lot. we had to buy it without a test drive, and wait 3-4 months for it to show up from japan.

I think that anything 'big' you add to the already fully functional Mazda5 will serve only to increase the price... and hence gives the competition a level playing field. I say let mazda5 keep the lead. Add a little here and there bling-blings but keep the price as it is. Sooner or later people will 'discover'
the mazda5 -- just like how many of us did.

I'm guessing it'll get the same engine choices as the current 3- the 2.0 and 2.5. I really doubt there would be a mazdaspeed version. isn't there an AWD version available elsewhere? that'd be cool.

Mazda learned by now that trying to outdo the competition like they did in the 80s and 90s will bankrupt them. Their new strategy to focus on the customer, not the competition, is paying off. They will improve the 5 and MX-5 etc. to meet the customers' wants and need and really all I want is the damn Karakuri seat approved (How the heck did Toyota get the 8th removable seat in the new 2011 Sienna approved yet Mazda didn't??) or at least a split folding 3 passenger bench on the 2nd row. It's also be nice if they threw in memory power driver seats in the US Grand Touring and Canadian GT Luxury Package. Me - 6'1", wife - 5'4", memory power seats would be awesome.

(i must sub this thread)

Soccer mom needs a new ride.

Question: Is the DVD Entertainment System upgrade a dealer install or factory install? I don't see any offered in the MZ5s sold in the Southern Cali region (NCSD). Need to keep the kids happy with Pixar flicks during long trips. Thx.

Yes it would be lovely if it came with the new 2,2l Commonrail diesel with 185PS/3500rpm and 400Nm within 1800-3000rpm.
Thats avaiable in the new 3 and 6 series here in europe, but can they make an AT that can stand that torque.

Currently im got a 2,0 Tdi with 110ps/310Nm, and im towing a RV on 1650kg that runs smooth with 100Km/h in 5th speed by 2000ppm just push the cruise and it stays on 100km/h on the highway up and downhill.
