OEM tire wear...

Hi all,

Anyone notice that the tread loss on their stock tires seems a little high? I don't race my car, nor do I burn up the tires. (I never even turn off DSC.)

However, with approx. 9000 miles, my front tires look about halfway gone. My tire pressure is good, so I am guessing I am only going to see about 20,000 miles out of these tires. Seems a little low to me...

Hey I have about 17000 on mine now and all four tires are down to the cables... I would rather be in your boat. But yes, they do seem to wear rather fast. And the blow in the winter. Especially bald.

I have been lucky this year. We have had only one good snow. I plan on replacing all four tires next year with some high performance all season tires. That should solve 99% of my weather issues. (Short of massive snow...which would suck no matter what tires I put on it.)

yeah i rotated my tires at 3k and they were already really worn out. thats how it is when you drive hard with front wheel drive and all that torque

The higher the grip available, the lower the treadware. In the MS3 the fronts will wear faster, even if you don't hotrod the car. Keep rotating the tires to even out the wear.

20k miles is pretty darn good for a decently grippy summer only tire. I'd say you more than got your moneys worth out of that tire.

Anyone that drives on this tire in the winter, in a place with actual wintery weather...well when you crash I hate to be rude but you kind of deserved it. When I lived in the inland NorthWest, if I crashed my car in the winter with summer tires on I'm pretty sure I'd be given a citation by the cops for inappropriate equipment.

All season tires as the only tire on this car is kind of a shame, but I understand you do what you gotta do. But then if you aren't really pushing the car much then it doesn't matter. On other cars I've had a pretty good time pushing it on sporty all-seasons.

Just remember the only thing that keeps your car on the road is the tires you drive on. That is one area that people skimp on that is a really bad idea. "But I want my tires to last for 85k miles" yeah great, it will be hard as a rock and have less available traction to stop and turn the vehicle. That is a safety hazard IMO.

guess I'll get off my soapbox.

Yup, 20K is all I got out of mine. Currently have Kumho Ecsta SPT which have a tread wear of 320.

Mine were done at 15K. Pretty normal. If you don't spend more on tires than you do on gas, you aren't driving hard enough. :)
