OEM roof rails questions

What does mounting the factor rails entail? Is it just tightening on a couple of mount points, or is there any drilling involved?

I leased my CX-9 and forgot to tell them to add the rails, so I'm split on getting them since I know in 3 years I'll be pulling them off. If there's any residual damage (beyond the obvious dirt lines that you can wash off) I might have to hold off.

If mine didn't have the rails already installed, I would probably look into this Thule setup. I imagine you can resell these once you turn in the vehicle OR you might be able to use it on another vehicle.

If you want Yakimas, I installed a set of Yakima Rail Grabs, 48" round crossbars onto the OEM roof rails. The 48" crossbars ~just~ fit the width span, so if you don't want ends poking out from the sides, this is a good option. I'll try to remember to take a closeup pic to post.

There is no whistling at 20-40mph, but there is a dull roar at 60-70mph depending on if there is wind blowing. I've been on the highway at 60mph with no roof rack roar and I've also been on the highway at 60 with a louder roar (roof rack was not repositioned). Same with 70mph...sometimes no roar at all, sometimes a louder roar.

Just ordered the OEM rails. Still haven't decided what crossbars to go with. Not going with OEM as I want them to work for more than one type of rig.

If you don't mind me asking, how much were they? My '11 Touring doesn't have rails and I'm considering adding them.

I'd like to know this as well as I'm considering adding them to my 2011. Can the rails be installed just by removing the external trim or does installation involve messing with the interior headliner?

From what I've read on other threads related to this, it's a simple installation. The only caution I've read so far is a clip that is very fragile and needs to be handled delicately so it doesn't break when installing the rails. I still haven't pulled the trigger on a set but probably will in the next month or 2. Maybe when the tax refund comes back. ;-)
