How can i tell if my OEM motor mounts are no good anymore?

If there stock they are pretty much no good, most of the time you can see where they are torn.

If your shifter moves a lot when accelerating or decelerating, you have a worn out mount.

Thant is how my dealeship replaced mine.

Did your dealer replace all the front, rear and side motor mounts under warranty? If, so, how long did they take?

My shifter isn't moving alot, but, someone who knows about tuning cars was taking a look at my engine today and said when i rev it, it has 2 to 3 inch movement which is too much and the mounts are damaged.

I was wondering if there was anyway to tell without taking the mounts of the car to see if they were damaged?

I believe it replaced fron in warranty and toke a couple of days.
After that the shifter moved a lot less.
Remember that the stock mount are soft but 2 - 3 is definitively not normal operation.

Also, like i said, my shifter is fine, but, i just want this thing fixed before my warranty runs out in this month probably. I have almost 50k on my car now. I was concerned if the mounts eventully go bad, i might as well try to find out if they are bad now, and i guess the only way they can tell is by taking the mounts off the car?

YOu can see the front and side mounts by opening the hood and looking at them.

You can also tell from excessive wheel hop & Engine lash during shifts or on/off throttle.

Even if the mounts are replaced under warently they are replaced withthe same garbage thhat was there originally.

Replace your mounts or get incerts with aftermarket parts & your all set.

I can see my side mounts ripped. My rear was torn to s***.

I got incerts put in, and all is well.

How long have you had the car?

I've had the car almost 3 years now, done 49200 till today. I just spoke to the dealer, they said that I could tell if the mounts were damaged because the car would vibrate. I don't have excessive wheel hop, but i told the dealer that i was thinking of replacing them with aftermarket ones, not all, but just the front maybe to reduce the wheel hop at take off and they said that stiffer mounts will not reduce wheel hope but i need a stronger sway bar?

I haven't heard of anything you call inserts, maybe i can look into them more? Where can i find this and are they inexpensive, easy and quick to install? Thanks!

DONT listen to the Stealership they told you a bunch of BULL s***, Im sure many will agree.

1st Thing a sway bar wont do s*** for wheel hop, what kind of a moron is that jack ass? 2nd the movement is ONLY normal for a motor with JUNK mounts. 3rd You have wheel hop, you have mount issues (Hell ALL 3rd Gen Proteges Have motor mount issues, simple as that)

ALL 3rd Gen Proteges need at least incerts (Most of the time full mount replacements is overkill, unless your making big power) Incerts are great, because they also dont cause the car to vibrate as crazy as the full mounts do, they break in better.

AND the ******* moron knows s***, because 100% stiffer motor mounts STOP wheel hop, and week ass motor mounts CAUSE wheel hop, from the motor jerking arround like a ******* bucking hourse. I would go back there and SLAP THE s*** OUT OF THAT ASS HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if the front motor mount is not ripped, throw in some RR Racing motor mount inserts. that will stiffen things up without too much additional vibration.

I showed the car to the service people at the dealership (stealership!) and they have called me in to leave my car with them on wednesday. They saw the mounts and i also showed them my turbo had oil around it. they said they will look at both these issues and let me know what it is they can do under warrenty.

by the way, i ordered the front and rear rr racing mount inserts already, can't wait to get them in!!

No Prob glad to help, that ass shouldnt show his face to you, I also hope you get a new Turbo.

You will love them, dont be shocked when you turn on the car for the first week or so, you will know what Im talking about.

They will make the drive feel great, Rafi is A good guy to dealwith also.


and they WILL break in in about 3-4 weeks.
