I got mine in the mail today, went to put it on, but I just couldnt make it fit. Its too tight, and i would have to wedge it in there, with the Alum rubbing against the paint, causing it to chip/scratch.

I was all disappointed and placed the OEM door back on. I was thinking of grinding it down, so that it won't wedge over the Alum and just over the O-Ring.

The people that have one, did you have problems like I did/do?

mine came with it already installed. I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't on there but I think that it looks cool.

Make sure you got the right one. When I ordered mine, they sent one for a Mazda6 the first time. Here's mine:

yeah turns out it is for the Hatch, I thought they are the same for Sedan and Hatch. But they are different shape. So I gave it to my buddy that owns a Hatch, looks sexy on black!

Goldwing, did you get yours off ebay? Its about $100 shipped to Canada. The dealer wants $180 CDN. (lol)

No, when I got mine, the dealer was the only place to get them. eBay didn't have anything for these cars back then.

if you have trouble putting the gas cap strap on the ricey gas door, make sure the hole is the same size as the stock gas door... I ran into this problem installing one and had to drill it bigger

I did not even connect mine back...I hate how it just hangs there against the paint when filling the car.

The strap on mine is long enough for me to stretch it over the door latch, so it hangs away from the car.

Hey Canuck - It looks good on the Grey color... I'm glad you got one that fits!!! (drinks)

Long-term update on the aluminum fuel door:

It's not a good idea for people in the snow belt.
Noticed some corrosion bubbling under the paint on mine last year. Wasn't too worried about it.
This year, the spring-loaded plunger started sticking, making the door not open when I pulled the floor lever.

Just took it off the car today to have a look and the mechanism is massively corroded, one of the screw heads broke off as soon as I touched it and there are corrosion stains running down the outside of the door.

Switching back to the stock door tomorrow. Not going to spend $100+ to get a new one for a 5-year-old car.

Hope the paint match isn't too far off...

Got mine installed a couple days ago. It looks great on a Cosmic Blue with graphite RX-8s. I'm wondering if anyone had a better solution on what to do with the gas cap while filling up? Someone mentioned their strap was long enough to drape over the door?
