Odd Q, but let me know..

I know this is a random question, but since I have read that most of you do your own oil changes and maintenance, what oil filters and oils do you all use?
I am looking at Red Line synthetics and still not sure on the filter for my first change. (Yes, my car is still under 2000 miles)
Let me know! I would like to do this before the first points event next weekend.

I still use the factory filters, not expensive and they do the job fine. I only use Mobil 1. I changed my oil at 1000 miles right after break in. It's entirely upto you of course, but I felt better changing it at 1000 miles instead of waiting for 3000 like the dealer recommends. There's no biggie in changing it early even though a lot of people seem to think that the factory oil has some kind of magical ingredient that conditions the motor or something. You can use redline too, but I don't think there will be much of a difference from Mobil 1 or any of the other major synthetics. Now Royal Purple, AMSoil and Synergen (spelling) are a different story, they also cost about $7.50 a qt. Those I've heard make a little bit of a difference. A lot of the guys on I-Club have been talking about it. What weight oil were you thinking about running? 5w-30, 10w-30?

I used Amsoil in my last car... a 2001 VW Golf TDI.. the thing ran so good and quietly. their oil is the best in my book...

Thanks for the Amsoil tip. That was the other I was considering, and it looks like what I'll use. I'm going to go with the 10W30 full synth. I just figure there has to be something better wit the synth than standard or they wouldn't be making it, unless I'm just another fool for wanna-be toys. (I did buy the MP3)
I run full synth in my bike and it has helped a lot. Most of the guys I ride with have had some engine problems, but mine is still strong.

Has anyone thought about getting an oil cooler...i am supprised that someone hasnt gotten one... if someone has what do you think about it???
