Odd noise coming from engine/transmission area

+1

I have the same problem and my cx-5 has been on the road for 2300 km the problem is still there.

I have heard a noise that is similar as you describe, but is so faint that I believe it is something only a trained ear might catch.

It occurs in my CX-5. It is very strange and almost intensifies with gas pedal pressure; almost like a frquency hum. I have deemed it associated with a electronic mechanism apart of the drive-by-wire system. Perhaps a component which registers pedal pressure. I haven't been under the dash to look, though.

Thats exactly what I was attributing it to also. Annoying, yes, but I can only hear it at parking lot speeds or stop and go traffic.

Your vehicle must have more injector noise transmitted than mine. I have good hearing and the sound is barely detectable from the pilot's seat (only audible if the road is smooth and quiet and stereo is off, fan on "2" or less).

Plus, it's a nice sound.

The injectors are noisy, but so is the high pressure, CDFP.
All together, it is a very clackity sounding idle. Sounds like a tractor. I actually find my CX-5 to be noiser in this regard than my Speed6.
Doesn't bother me.

I've heard nearly this same sound on the BMW X1 (with the hood open). I think it must be a "feature" of all direct injection engines. It's the wave of the future - get used to it!

hello. would you consider the noise loud during idle, with the hood closed, from outside the car?

Of the DI engine?

Not really. Most people likely wouldn't notice, or if they did, wouldn't be bothered by it. It isn't really louder than a PI engine, like stated before, there's a few engine components that are a little louder when operating, i.e. CDFP and injectors.

...funny, when the dealer was selling me the car it was: "It's a Skyactive motor!" With enthusiasm.
...then, when I inquired about the locusts in my motor, the mechanic said: "It's a Skyactive motor, it's noisy as hell!" looking at me like I'm an idiot for not knowing.

So I guess this is all supposed to be "normal". Wow. It's a deal breaker for me, but too late now. The noise is more like a frequency. When I get out of the car, I can still hear that noise ringing/buzzing in my head. Gonna hafta transcend this shaite.

Hi Guys!

First of all, loads of great comments here, so thanks to all who have contributed (2thumbs)

I have been exceptionally happy with my CX5 AWD Petrol, recently running through the mountains in central Norway, with winding crap roads, steep bends and hills, and loved it all the way.

A few days ago I turned off the sound system (which I usually crank up really loud) and noticed a noise that is really hard to explain. It comes as soon as I touch the gas pedal, but doesn't increase particularly when increasing revs, its the same level all the way. Its like a metallic murmur, low and and increases in cadence when reving, but not in loudness. It disappears as soon as my foot leaves the gas pedal, even if I am doing high speeds. As soon as you turn on the sound system and listen to music at a "normal" level of sound, I can't hear it anymore (but it still there if i really concentrate).

I was a bit worried driving it work today, and wondering if I should hand it to the dealer pronto. Its gone 9000km, haven't changed oil yet. Any comments, or tips?

I was experiencing a similar issue with mine. I went to the dealer, they brought out their leading mechanic. He listened to the engine and determined it was a solenoid that lead to the vacuum hose. They told me I should put the stock in-take back on my CX-5 (I have the CS Short Ram). That's all they could tell me.
