Odd driver's side floor "feature". Is this common?

Hi,

I got an M3 Hatch 05, Auto.

I've been driving the car for about a week, and something odd about the floor (close to the accelerator) is making long drives uncomfortable. About 3-4 inches back from the accelerator pedal, there seems to be a "hump". The floor is raised, a few inches away from the accel., but it is only raised at that corner, the rest of the floor has the same level. Hope you guys understand what I am describing.

Anyway, anyone else has that raised floor area, that makes the position of the accel. foot somehow uncomfortable? I guess you have to be sort of a big guy to notice it. Is it even there in your cars?

Thx

I think what you are describing is the duct that runs from the front to underneath the drivers seat for rear passengers heat/AC. I personally havent had a problem with it while driving, however I sometimes step on it while getting out of the car and I keep thinking one day it might break because of that.

pretty sure joshman is correct... those things are some seriously hard plastic i wouldn't worry to much about breaking them... i do think they are annoying i mean do i sit in the back of my car... no way... so who cares about their poor lil feet?? if they had been better designed to fit into the floor panels, or had some channels so you wouldn't feel them as much hydroformed (or however they are forming our panels) in would have been nice... but s*** for the money we paid it really isn't that bad...

Yup,

I think you guys are right, it seems to be the heating duct. Not the best place to put that thing. Oh well, at least I know what that is now, wondering if I could complain to dealer about it. It seems other people have other complains about the ducts, such as a rattling or creaking noise.

thx.

threadjack: andresx, what in the world did you tear out your interior for?

I didn't. I just found the pic online. Wish I could to rip out the vent, makes long drives easier.

its not that hard if you don't care bout the peeps behind you... it will just blow air out the side of the center console where it connects, all you have to do is remove your driver side kick panel, the door sill, and then peel back the carpet and remove the duct work.... i don't think there is much to it... i just left mine in as it doesn't really bother me...
