OCC placement for my MS6

hmmmm, well staying well clear of the arguments.
i recently bought a very small OCC. and trying to figure out whether i want top or bottom mount in-line.

I've seen first hand the amount that the top end OCC gets. a full 12-16 oz is no slouch.
bottom end OCC, does indeed get more, but that shouldnt totally right off the other.
Since i have no clue how to do this, Forzda you got more detaild pics by any chance of your OCC install? or a good write up? all the how-to s*** i've read lately are either for ms3 (similar i know) and badly written. :(
 
that write up by cobb is about as good as it gets. if you are doing the one on the valve cover you won't need as expensive occ since it doesn't have to be as durable as there will be no boost pressure there. here are some pictures of how mine is:

The Cobb write up is indeed very good. I can't see bova's pics right now, so I'll try and take some pics of my install location this evening. It isn't a real technical task, just a bit difficult to get hands up behind the intake where the OEM PCV and intake manifold nipple are. You really don't need a terribly detailed how-to as it will become clear when you actually get under the car and view the area.

I put my OCC in the driver's fender well where the CAI filter would normally go. There are two studs already there from the OEM air chamber so you can attach the SM OCC with no alterations. I used relatively long hoses for mine for ease of installation/draining of the OCC without reaching under the car. I used the blue #10 push-lock hose from Jegs as it is a good compromise between flexability and the stiffness required to remain open under high vacuum. If you're looking to add bling to your engine area, this isn't the thing for it.

You don't need to remove the OEM PCV hose from the OEM PCV valve, only remove it from the manifold nipple which is metal and durable.

Note that any OCC location will build moisture condensate from the temp differential from inside the engine to outside atmosphere. The longer the hoses, the more air/moisture potential. This said, there have been reports of the OCC contents and possibly trapped moisture in the hoses freezing in very cold temps (>20 deg F) which could result in causing the very problems we're trying to prevent.

My car doesn't sit outside and cold-soak in temps that cold so I don't have any issues. I'll add a few more notes when I post up the photos.
 
and as forzda mentioned you will get more gunk in it in the winter then the summer. in the winter i have to empty it weekly and in the summer probably monthly. this is from all the condensation that forms in the can itself.
 
Here's a few shots of mine installed. I used a wire-wound hose support under the IM to make sure the hose doesn't kink from the fairly tight bend radius coming off the IM nipple... You can get them at Advance or NAPA for 5/8" hose.

There's some guy on msf selling full kits with all the hoses, pcv valve and the occ. One thing to watch for is the ring around the pcv valve may crack when you take it off. We had to wait 3 days for the part.

By the way, you guys aren't adding anything to this thread. You're all a bunch of criticizing smart asses! (thought)

I honestly can't believe more people haven't broken that clip. It's not in an easily accessible location.
 
I have the above kit on my car right now, in fact I'm local to Matt so he installed it for free at our last local meet, clean kit, clean install.
I'm very happy with the setup and would reccomend it to anyone.
 
Yeah, I'm seriously thinking about buying that kit, looks to be just the ticket. He is talking about developing a two can solution sometime soon, so I might wait to see what that is all about first.
 
I'll be ordering from OCC kit int he near very near future. Replaced my plugs yesterday and found a bit of oil in my TMIC. Such a wonderful feeling to have when you see that.

I am going to prove their point. We have the same issue with oil in the inlet. I am going to install the OCC per Cobb's instruction and end this argument. I agree with Forzda, Bova, and tunersteve, currently you are treating the symptom and not root cause. Like I said, this should give you definitive proof of what they and more specifically what Cobb is saying. The results may take a while as my OCC will go on next weekend if it comes in this week and then I won't be driving my car for 90% of April. I'll be doing a ton of driving in May including a round trip from Chicago to New Orleans. I may also make the trip from Chicago to NY for the OCC meet. If placing it where Cobb says doesn't work after all of that looks like I'll be putting in two (2) OCC's.
